My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hiya! My name is DUSTY and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Shepherd Mix

  • Age: approx. 4 years old

  • Gender: Male

  • Weight: 37 lbs (17kg)

  • Height: 66 cm (paws to top of my head)

  • Length: 89 cm (head to butt)

  • Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - My journey hasn’t been the easiest—I was found living at a gas station in Mexico City with my buddy Athos, struggling to find food and shelter. But even then, I never lost my gentle nature.

When kind rescuers found me, I was very thin and missing some fur, but I was so happy to finally get attention and care. At the vet, they helped me regain my strength, and though my tongue always sticks out (which makes me extra cute!), I’m perfectly healthy now.

During my time at the shelter, I’ve made lots of human and dog friends. Now, I’m looking for my forever home - where I can share my love and calm energy. I adore cuddles, making new friends, and enjoying a relaxed, happy life. Could you be my person?

TEMPERAMENT - I am social, playful and friendly. I am not nervous or scared of human interaction and approach everyone I meet with a friendly tail wag and a calm demeanor. Here I am loving some pets! Here I am with my pals!

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I love going for walks and chasing balls and am a playful and friendly guy! I also love snuggles and pets and am an overall calm and friendly pup, I am told I would make a perfect family dog!

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown.

  • Dogs –  Yes. I am a playful and friendly dog and I don’t display any territorial behaviours or resource guarding. I love to play with other dogs of all types!

  • Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Work in progress. I love to go for walks and to visit with others. I do tend to pull as I want to explore everything, but I am not reactive towards cars, people or other dogs on the street. I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success!

  • House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • During my first check-up with the vet, they noticed a slight tremor in my legs - which they suspected was neurological. Over the next several months, however, I was checked by the vet frequently and the tremor is gone and I have never demonstrated any further symptoms. My tongue hangs out of my mouth, but the vet did not find any medical reason for this - I like to think it makes me extra cute!

  • I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. **I will likely need dental work, based off photos of my teefs**

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $650.00 CAD + applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible.
