My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a pint-sized bundle of joy to brighten your life? Meet Candy!

Do you dream of coming home to 20 pounds of spring-loaded happiness? How about a dog who can do any puzzle you put in front of her? Looking for a couch warmer? Candy’s got you covered.

Candy is a 4-year-old chihuahua / basenji mix with a heart as sweet as her name. She’s incredibly smart and shows signs of prior training, but she’s looking for a patient and loving human to help her brush up on her manners and build her confidence. With consistent boundaries and guidance, she’ll truly shine.
She’s best as an only dog as she loves her own space to relax and she loves being the center of attention. She loves all the cuddles she can get! She happily retreats to her crate when she needs her alone time

Candy’s energy level is perfectly in tune with her people. Whether it’s a brisk power walk, a hiking adventure, or simply lounging on the couch, Candy is happiest when she’s near you. Be prepared for her excitement during transitions—like waking up or coming home—but once the initial zoomies are out, she’s ready to relax.

Candy would do best in a home with dog-savvy children and with humans who are retired, work from home, or have a flexible schedule. She doesn’t enjoy being left alone for long stretches.

If you’re ready to welcome a cinnamon-doughnut dog with a huge personality into your life, Candy is ready to meet you! Let’s make life sweeter together—reach out to meet Candy today!

Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
