My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Desmond is a total goof! He steals napkins off your lap when you sit down for a meal, climbs on your shoulders during dinner, and wants very much to participate in any kind of computer work you might be doing. He likes firm scratches, pets, and big hugs! You can see from the photos that he is a very "rubbery" kind of cat and can be caught sleeping in all kind of impossible positions.

He is a high energy guy who likes to play hard. He will want to be with another cat who also likes to play hard or a cat who is very calm and confident and doesn't mind his endless antics. He loves other cats and will love on them even while being a nudge. He is deft at sneaking into a cat bed to cuddle with another cat we were convinced hated him. Despite getting the occasional scratch on his white nose from other cats he lives with (likely because he's not very good at taking a hint sometimes), he never actually harms anyone, even the very small foster kittens we have. Over the last year, he has started to mellow out and will likely continue to get better and better at responding to the social cues from other cats.

Desmond would do best with a more experienced and/or patient human with at least a somewhat predictable schedule. He is very nervous when approached directly, very worried about being locked in a room where he will be "caught" by a human, and cannot be picked up at the convenience of the humans -- although, when he chooses to be with you, he loves to be squeezed and mauled!. He is cautious around new people but after a few days will trust them (which means getting on their laps and in their face!). He can sometimes be comically dramatic in his response to what he feels might be a threat -- he has some hilarious expressions! I promise, life with this odd-ball will never be boring!

Additional adoption info

We adopt animals to homes in the Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.

To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, committed homes, we have a screening process before you can adopt a pet from Kitten Rescue. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. First, we ask that you complete our Adoption Questionnaire at kittenrescue.org/cat-adoption-form/. You can complete the form online or you may stop by a weekly adoption event to complete form in person. Second, a home visit or a home delivery of the cat or kitten is also required as part of our adoption process.

The Kitten Rescue adoption fee is $150 for a kitten or cat up to 10 years old, and $100 for each additional kitten or cat to the same household ($250 if you adopt a pair). Cats above 10 years old have a fee reduction of 50%, for an adoption fee of $75 each.

All of our cats have already been:
Spayed or neutered
Vaccinated – with at least one FVRCP vaccination
Treated for fleas
Dewormed
Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Microchipped

More about this rescue

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. We rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia. Since our start in 1997, we have grown into one of the largest, most well-respected animal welfare groups in LA.

Kitten Rescue volunteers adopt out over 2,000 cats and kittens into homes every year. We educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, how to care for kittens and cats, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes educational material available via events, print, school presentations and here on our website. We also provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) assistance for communities in and around Los Angeles, and teach people how to manage and care for feral cat colonies.
