My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE 7/2025

This is truly heart-wrenching…
Little Flora has been with us for almost a year now. She came in as a tiny, helpless baby—so small she couldn’t even eat on her own. One of our caring staff members fostered her for a short time just to keep her alive. But since then, the rest of her young life has been spent in a cage at the shelter.
Now, at 11 1/2 months old, we’re starting to see the sadness in her eyes. Flora is getting depressed… and who could blame her? Growing up in a shelter is no life for a kitten.
Despite it all, Flora is still curious, playful, and spunky. She has so much love to give, but she needs the right person—a cat-savvy human with patience and understanding to help her continue to blossom.
Let’s turn her frown upside down.
Please, if you have room in your heart and home for this sweet girl with a little extra spice, consider giving Flora the life she deserves. She has waited long enough.

DOB 8/2/24

Flora’s journey started when she was brought to us as a teeny baby at just 3-4 weeks old by a concerned citizen. While it’s always with the best intentions, sometimes the kindest thing to do for a kitten is to wait. Often, a mama cat is nearby, and keeping kittens with her for at least 6-8 weeks allows them to learn important life lessons!

Flora missed some of those early lessons from her mama, so she’s looking for an experienced cat person to help her adjust and learn manners. She is a dominant female cat for sure!   Due to her personality, she’s best in a home without young children.

If you’re ready to give this little girl the love and guidance she needs, come meet Flora today!

*Per JSAC policy, puppies and kittens under 6 months will not be adopted to families with children under the age of 6 years.

Adoption Process

Our friendly, knowledgable team of staff and volunteers would be glad to give you a tour of the shelter and discuss whether one of our furry friends is the right match for your home.

The JSAC has careful policies on the placement of young animals, dominant breed dogs (Rottweilers, Shepherds, Akitas, etc). We have a lifelong return policy for all our pets. We prefer homes in the region so that we can be a resource for the animals and their adopters, however we will adopt out of state to approved adopters. These policies and procedures are in place to protect everyone involved and are very common when rehoming animals, whether through a shelter or a rescue group.

We do not have "same day" adoptions. Rather, an application for an animal is reviewed to ensure that 1) the home has taken good care of their other animals * 2) The animal is permitted in the home and 3) that it is the right home for the right animal (choosing dog that likes cats if cats already in household, etc..). Typically this process takes 24-48 hours. If a dog application is approved and there are other dogs in the home, we have the two (or more) dogs meet; many times if necessary.
