My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

OBI hails from the northern community of Pikangikum and was part of our Heart Litter who came south to find their forever families. He’s had his first 2 sets of vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no information on either parent so the breed he is and the size he’ll grow to be is just a guess. This happy, energetic little guy is a perfect combination of snuggles and energy. He loves being around his people and playing with his many dog toys.

OBI is crate trained and will sleep quietly in it at night and also take naps in there during the day. House training is still a work in progress but he is really good at using the bathroom outside and has very few accidents in the home. He loves to go on walks and like all puppies, he pulls on his leash and excitedly runs ahead of you. He’s at a chewing stage right now as he’s teething so he has several chewy toys plus Nyla bones to keep his teeth busy. He has no food aggression but does eat his food very quickly so a slow feeder would be a good investment for him. He knows most basic commands and will sit for his meals and take treats “gentle.” He’s a very smart boy and picks up very quickly on commands and seems to always know what’s expected of him.
OBI’s ideal family would be an active one who loves the outdoors, going on hikes, walks and will take him on adventures with them. He gets along very well with his male foster fur sibling and he’s all found well socialized with dogs of all sizes so would suit a home with one. He hasn’t met a cat but if the cat is dog savvy and with a slow, monitored introduction then he should be able to live in a home with one. Children should be aged 6 plus and he does require a fenced-in yard to keep him safe.

Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to take him for puppy/obedience training to help him become a well mannered and good boy. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and his potential adopter must be in agreement to have his neuter performed by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs (which ever comes first.) It will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there. However his neuter will still have to be performed in the above timeframe for the reimbursement and we’ll need a copy of the procedure invoice and an updated photo of him (preferably in a cone after the surgery.) The photo will be put on our fb page along with other animals that were fixed that same week.
If OBI sounds like he’d suit your home and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
