Meet Rocket —
AKA Rocket Man, Mr. Man, and (when he’s being
especially silly) Stinkabutt!
Breed: Hound Mix
Age: 8 years young
Weight: 75 lbs
Location: Survivor Tails Animal Rescue (NH & MA)
If you’re looking for a goofy, loyal, and affectionate companion who knows the value of a cozy blanket and a quiet evening, Rocket might just be your soulmate.
Rocket may be 8, but don’t let that fool you — he’s got plenty of life, love, and zoomies left in him! He’s a laid-back couch dweller most of the time, but when adventure calls, he’s all in for walks, hikes, beach strolls, and car rides. This handsome hound even enjoys a good swim (well, more of a soak) in chest-deep water.
Rocket is a total foodie. His meals are gourmet-level to him — Hill’s Lamb & Rice twice a day with a packet of Purina Calming Care in the morning. He’s also a connoisseur of fine snacks:
Ugly Chews, BetterBones, cheese, carrots, peanut butter, dried salmon skins, dehydrated venison, and chicken strips are all high on his list of favorites. If you hear gentle pacing near his bowl, that’s Rocket politely reminding you that dinner time is approaching.
You might think Rocket was part archaeologist — he loves bones! He’s smart, and when he’s feeling a little stressed, he’ll grab one to chew on and calm himself down. He’s also crate trained, fully house trained, and sleeps in an XL wire kennel when needed. He knows “go kennel, ”eats his meals there, and does best when he has that familiar, comfy space.
Rocket is a cuddle pro. He’ll pace in front of you on the couch until you get the message — he wants in under that blanket! Once tucked in as the little spoon, he’s all yours... as long as you
don’t toss and turn too much. He’s very particular about cuddle time, and if you move too much, he’ll let you know you’ve annoyed him by huffing and puffing, and finding a comfy chair to lie in instead. Just lie still, give him a big hug and some shoulder scratches, and he’ll fall asleep right in your arms. The perfect buddy for a movie night!
He’s also quite the talker — Rocket loves to share his thoughts about delivery drivers, mail trucks, loud motors and any beeping noises (microwaves, smoke alarms, or trucks backing up are not his vibe). Calm reassurance and gentle redirection help him best.
Rocket is great with people and can do well with other dogs after proper introductions. He doesn’t play with other dogs often, mostly just likes to hang out next to them, but when he does find a match, he wrestles like it’s WWE SmackDown! 😂 He’s not big on toys — he’s a bone guy through and through — and prefers butt scratches and grass rolls for entertainment.
He’s a model citizen for grooming, too! Nail trims and baths are no problem (as long as there are treats involved), though he’s not a fan of having his paws touched when relaxing.
Rocket does have a few areas where he could use some patience and love:
💙 He can get anxious in busy environments, around loud noises, or when left alone too long.
CBD helps him stay calm, and he’s a champ about taking it straight from the dropper.
💙 Since he gets anxious around loud noises and commotion, we’re seeking a home without young children or puppies who haven’t learned boundaries yet.
💙 He gets a little overexcited greeting people (he may jump or take a treat too enthusiastically if he’s worked up).
💙 He’ll also bark and pull on leash if he sees big trucks, motorcycles, or other dogs — but with treats, training, and consistency, he’s improving all the time!
Rocket is a smart, affectionate, funny, and deeply loyal companion who thrives with routine, love, and understanding. If you can offer him a calm, cozy home and a safe space to be his goofy, sweet self, you’ll have a best friend for life.

More about this rescue
Survivor Tails Animal Rescue is a 501c3, non-profit, all-volunteer organization that exists to rescue, rehome, and rehabilitate homeless, unwanted, abused, and neglected dogs and cats and place them in loving and responsible forever homes. More than 4 million cats and dogs die each year in animal shelters across the country due to overpopulation issues. That's why we're here. Our mission is twofold: to find these unwanted animals loving homes of their own and to work with communities and like-minded organizations to stop the issue of overpopulation from the top. We don't want to just put a bandage on the issue, we want to prevent animal homelessness from the getgo. We adopt to MA and NH only.
