Melanie — 3 years old, 82 lbs, Doberman/German Shepherd Mix
Stunning. Loyal. Athletic. Total lovebug.
Melanie came to us after being found in a drainage ditch with her three puppies. Her babies have all been adopted, and now it’s her turn to finally be someone’s whole world. She’s a young adult with a big heart, a bright mind, and a ton of love to give.
Melanie is a true working-breed girl. She thrives with structure, routine, and an active family who appreciates a smart, athletic dog. She loves long walks, running, exploring, and especially tennis balls. Once her energy is out, she’s perfectly content to curl up on the couch and soak up affection.
She is wonderful with people and has been fostered with kids 10+ with no issues. She’s friendly, affectionate, goofy, and loves being included in whatever her humans are doing. She’s attended her foster’s weekend ball games and quickly became the star of the sidelines.
Melanie has lived with other dogs and does best with easygoing, confident medium-to-large dogs who match her play style. She’s enthusiastic and full of “big dog energy,” so she’ll pair best with dogs who enjoy active, athletic play. Puppies bring out her sweet maternal side, and she enjoys their company. Intros with adult dogs should simply be done mindfully, like with any strong, energetic working-breed dog.
She walks well on leash, rides beautifully in the car, is crate-trained at night, and has settled into home life with ease. She loves the rain, loves her people even more, and is the definition of a loyal companion.
Ideal Home
• Active family familiar with working breeds (not required!)
• Children 10+
• Space to run and play
• Another easygoing, confident dog is welcome but not required
• Someone who loves a big dog with an even bigger heart
If you’re looking for a smart, stunning, devoted dog who will be your adventure buddy and your couch buddy, Melanie is your girl.
This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)
To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.
PLEASE READ:
• If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this.
• All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date.
• Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments.
Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.
Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.

The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.
