Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sunny has been with us for nearly 300 days. When Sunny arrived, our poor boy had two hernias. We performed surgery to remove each of them and through it all he has been so patient and so easy to handle! Sunny is all better now but with these surgeries has come an expected, but understandably difficult roadblock for adopters, Sunny needs a diaper.
Why does he need a diaper? After two surgeries everything down there is a bit more loose than when he was originally designed. We have worked hard to firm up his stool and potty training is not an issue! The diaper is just a precaution for the occasional drip or leak. We aren't sure how long his butt will be leaky, or if it will ever stop completely. But we know he doesn't deserve to sit in the shelter for another 300 days until we find out.
It may sound difficult, but any extra time it takes to get ready, will be worth it with Sunny. Sunny is a GREAT dog, so changing a diaper is no big thing for him. Diapers are the easiest way to allow Sunny to roam freely inside a home, and they are inexpensive, and come in disposable or reusable varieties! Currently he is on a special diet to try and help tighten up things down there, but we hope he can be taken off that diet over time.
Here are a few first hand experiences from Sunny's friends:
"He's SUCH a good and easy walk and has the goofiest little strut when he's in the play yard"
"Sunny is always up for a game of fetch or a good run, but he’s also incredibly loyal, always by your side when it’s time to relax"
"Sunny is the perfect companion for those who love a fun-loving dog with a lot of heart and an even bigger sense of humor!"
Sunny is our Pet of the Month so his adoption fee is currently waived, but if you’d like take him home as a foster first that is definitely an option. You can stop by any time to meet/adopt him or email foster@lynchburghumane.org if you are interested in fostering.

Placing an animal on ‘hold’: The Lynchburg Humane Society wants your adoption experience to be as pleasant and as stress-free as possible which is why we allow potential adopters to place holds on animals so that they can take their time making adoption decisions, introducing family members and other pets, and researching breed traits. Holds may be placed over the phone or in person, and in the case of a “tie”, the individual physically visiting the shelter and the animal will be awarded the first hold on the pet. Adoption holds may only be placed during business hours by speaking with a team member and paying the hold fee.

More about this shelter
For over fifty years, the LHS has operated as a private, non-profit organization, caring for lost and homeless pets. Last year, we cared for 3,981 pets and 96% of the pets went to new or existing homes. We are a No Kill Humane Society and a 501c3. By operating the public shelter for the City of Lynchburg and Appomattox County, we accept the stray or unwanted pets surrendered to us from those communities. We also have developed a more regional/state level focus. In 2016 we helped 602 pets from other public shelters that otherwise may have had a negative outcome. We accept those that are easily adoptable as pets, as well as those that need special nurturing from abusive or neglectful experiences. We firmly believe that no healthy or treatable pet should be euthanized. Along with our Center for Pets we also have a regional spay/neuter clinic located in Evington, VA. The spay/neuter clinic serves Lynchburg, Campbell, Nelson, Rockbridge, Appomattox, Bedford and Amherst Counties. It is the help of the community that makes our life-saving programs possible.
Mission: Help pets in need thru sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter and community outreach.
Vision: A community free of homeless and neglected pets.
