My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dobby, a lovable, smart, and energetic pup who’s ready for his next big adventure! As a graduate of the Leash on Life Prison Pup Program, Dobby comes with some impressive credentials. He’s mastered his Canine Good Citizen training, acing skills like loose-leash walking and coming when called. Just beware—his hound instincts are strong, and if he catches the scent of a deer, all bets are off!

This handsome Plott Hound mix weighs in at 60 pounds and is full-grown. He’s neutered, up to date on all his shots, and microchipped, ready to join his forever family. Born on 12/31/17, Dobby is a mature pup with the perfect balance of energy and relaxation.

Dobby is highly food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding for both him and his handler. He’s learned a variety of commands, including “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “heel,” “high five,” “peek-a-boo,” and even “relax.” One of his signature tricks? Giving a high-five with both paws! He loves mental stimulation and is always eager to learn new things, especially if snacks are involved.

Dobby is great with all people and other dogs—they call him the “Ambassador to Dogs” and is first to greet new arrivals into the program. However, due to his hound nature, cats are a no-go. While Dobby may seem standoffish at first, he’s a cuddle bug at heart and loves snuggling up at bedtime.

This loyal, intelligent, and loving dog would thrive in a home with a fenced-in yard, where he can run, explore, and sunbathe. Dobby is housetrained and accustomed to plenty of exercise, so he’ll need an active family to keep up with his adventurous spirit. He may need a little time to acclimate to new surroundings, but with patience—and a few tasty treats—he’ll settle in just fine.

If you’re an outdoorsy type looking for a loyal companion to join you on your adventures, Dobby could be your perfect match! Ready to meet your new best friend? Dobby is waiting!

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a private, non-profit, no-kill organization formed in September 2000. We are staffed entirely by volunteers and we operate the only shelter in the county. Our rural county is a very poor county in South Carolina.

McCormick County does not allocate any money for a county or city shelter and we do not have any veterinarians in our county.

We are all our county has for any help with animals.

We approach this problem through our #DoTheMath low cost spay/neuter program. We also provide TNR (trap, neuter or spay, and return) for outside, unowned cats for free throughout the county.
