Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Roman is a handsome one year old black Great Dane male. He is still very much a puppy with a puppy brain. Roman is a sweet boy with the most soulful eyes you have ever seen! He is a gentle boy who attaches quickly to people. Roman enjoys quiet walks with his foster parents and helping out around the house. Walks are getting better w practice on a leash.
Roman has a few quirks that he needs his potential adopters to be aware of.
- he has bloated, his stomach has been tacked but in situations of high stress he is a bloat risk and will need to be monitored throughout his life
- Roman has shown some food and resource guarding with other dogs. He will need to be fed separately from other dogs in the home and any high value food items like treats will need to be fed with dogs separated
- Roman is a bit unsure of life and how to live like a "normal" dog. He seeks the guidance of the adult in his life and will need a calm, strong, experienced giant breed owner to help him figure all of this out (rescue experience preferred)
- Roman is good with other dogs but is still figuring out how to play, he does best with confident, female dogs
- Roman needs SLOW socialization and exposure to new things once he has built trust with his adopter. Our obedience requirement will be critical to Roman's success
If you think you could be Roman's perfect family, please read more about adoption and submit an application at www.greatdanerescueinc.com/adopt

4.
Approve Application
Approved adopters are matched to a Great Dane. This step often takes some time to find a great match.
Additional adoption info
The Adoption Application must be submitted electronically. An application fee of $25 USD is required to begin processing your application.
Fees may be submitted via Paypal to: greatdanerescuemi@gmail.com
You may also send a check to:
GDRI
P.O. Box 5543
Plymouth, MI 48170.
Applications will not be processed until the fee is paid. This amount helps offset the expense of long distance calls made to both process your application and discuss available Danes for adoption.
The next step will be checking your references and arranging your home visit. Once your references are checked, our Adoption Coordinator will give you a call to conduct an interview. We will then try to match you up with the right dog. This includes giving you the name/number of the foster home so you can talk with them directly and make arrangements to see your potential new friend.
Adoption Fees
0-6 months $550
6-12 months $500
1-4 years $400
5-7 years $300
8+ years $200
Amounts listed include the $25 application fee.
Adoption fees are inclusive of all medical care, and go directly to our Rescue Fund to help pay the health care and rescue expenses. We are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization (#38-3265880) and your adoption fee may be tax-deductible - please check with your accountant.
Please note that we only place Danes in homes with children over the age of 8 due to the sometimes-unknown history of a dog. For people with children under 8, please contact us for a breeder referral. If you find a dog somewhere else, PLEASE let us know so we can conserve our volunteers' time and funds.
