My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: May 1997

Kono is a DNA tested Female Goffins Cockatoo, 28 years old
Diagnosed with PDD - Avian Borna Virus.
SPECIAL NEEDS

This bird is a sweetheart.
Not your average hand tame bird, she will however allow your to chicken grab her ;)
Seems to prefer females, but is not aggressive towards men as we have seen.
She is going to need someone with experience, and no other birds in the home, unless
also PDD positive.

She will not do well in a Condo, Apartment, or Townhouse type of residence.

She likes to come down of the cage and wander around the house, so will need
constant supervision when out of the cage, and no other animals that will be a
treat to her well-being.

She is NOT on any medication at this time.
But may require some in the future.
She eats an extremely well, fresh and pelleted diet.
NO seed.

We are looking for a home with someone that gets to work from home.
She requires regular out-of-cage time and attention.
She is a Cockatoo, so will be loud at times, but not a constant screamer.

Kono is foster in Leonardo, NJ
She will require in-person visits before adoption.
We do not ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
As our adoptable birds are living in private homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
