My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sandra is currently living in one of our amazing foster homes! Here is a note from her foster:

`Sandra is a lovely, 60 lb. pit bull-terrier mix. She has been a joyful addition to our home since October 16. She is completely house-broken and sleeps through the night in bed with one of her foster parents. She is very friendly with people and dogs. Sandra loves to chase tennis balls in the backyard, play tug-of-war, and snuggle. Sandra takes treats, food, and medicine gently from her foster parent’s hand. She loves going for car rides.

She is free to roam throughout the house even when nobody is home and doesn’t get into things- she mostly sleeps. When her foster parents work from home she sleeps or plays with her toys.

She walks with a loose leash and likes to play with the neighbor dogs. She also runs with her foster dad and can go 2 miles.

She can be mouthy when playing but her foster parents are working on this with her. Because of the mouthiness Sandra would do better in a house without kids under 12. Other dogs seem to really like her, but the smaller ones are sometimes overwhelmed by her size and friendly enthusiasm.`

Additional adoption info

Thank you for considering adopting and saving a life! Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge you need to adopt while making the process a positive experience, so here are some things to know:

+ You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt at HSHV. We welcome all--from any county or state!

+ Prior to visiting an animal, you must complete an application. You can do this at the shelter, or save time by bringing a completed one with you by downloading it from our website at www.hshv.org/howtoadopt.

+ Some animals have special adoption requirements.

+ Adoptions are first-come, first served and holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.

+ Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting. Bring your driver's license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for current pets.

+ Applications are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing.

+ Most adoptions are same-day, you'll take home your new friend!

When our animals go home, they've received an initial health check and have been:
+ Spayed/Neutered
+ Microchipped
+ Current on vaccinations (as appropriate to their age)
+ Dewormed
+ Feline Leukemia tested (kittens and cats)
