My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Poor Benson was abandoned when his owners moved away, and he so deserves a real forever home. He had a 3 inch stick stuck in his neck when he was found and needed surgery to remove it, but he's already forgotten all about it.

His wonderful foster home is teaching him the basics and giving him lots of love and attention, and he's really blossoming. He's potty trained and crate trained; he likes to hang out in his crate so much that his foster started closing the door sometimes, and he's decided the couch is the best spot.

Benson likes playing with female dogs and does ok with most male dogs, with proper introduction. His play style is pretty wild when he gets excited, and it could be off putting for some dogs, but he's never aggressive, and he LOVES to play (with people too!). He takes cues from other dogs, good or bad-- if another dog lunges on a leash, Benson will do the same, but when he meets a chill dog, he's chill, too.

He's learning basic commands and needs more work on manners like jumping. His forever home should be committed to continuing to work with him to improve his manners and giving him plenty of exercise-- a tired dog is a good dog! He likes kids, but will do better with older kids-- his boisterous puppy energy and tendency to jump may be too much for little ones. He would love to have a fenced yard and a friend to bounce around with!

Benson is neutered, and microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, is on heartworm prevention.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in meeting or adopting any of our wonderful NMAR dogs, please fill out an adoption application: http://www.northmeckanimalrescue.org/adoption-information/adoption-application/

We offer a variable adoption fee structure. Variable adoption pricing allows us to provide top quality care for all animals. Adoption fees are based on several factors such as, age, size, breed or temperament. Having a higher adoption fee for some animals who find a home quickly enables us to create a financial legacy for those animals in needs of lifesaving medical and behavioral intervention. Our basic adoption includes a veterinary and behavior screening/testing, spay/neuter surgery, all initial vaccinations, deworming and a microchip.
