Meet April! Your New Best Friend!
April is a sweet, two-year-old pup with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! She adores cuddling on the couch, giving hugs and kisses, and being by your side throughout the day. She is incredibly smart! She knows how to sit, stay, come, lie down, and even shake paws (though sometimes she has a mind of her own!).
April thrives in an active home with a backyard where she can play and explore. She loves going on walks and enjoys play-wrestling with other dogs, chasing after stuffed animals and squeaky toys, and even playing fetch.
She's potty and crate trained. While we're not sure how she feels about cats or kids, she gets along well with other dogs and would love a playful companion.

Learn more about our adoption process below and fill out an adoption application to take the first step in giving April the home she deserve!
- Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative.
- Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above.
- Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview.
- Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment.
- Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $135 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets.
