My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐾 Adopt Teddy: Your New Furry Friend! 🐾

Meet Teddy, the charming pup who's ready to be a part of your family! Teddy is a smart and silly dog with a heart full of adventure - without all the adventures! He loves to explore and spend time in the yard and lie in the sun. He gets along with other dogs very well!

Though Teddy is still very shy and timid with humans, he still loves to follow you around, see what you are up to, and to be near you! With a little patience and love, he'll be the perfect companion for your home. He is only for someone who has the patience to give him TIME! After living a life outdoors, he is just so grateful to be inside a home at all!

If you're looking for a dog who will open up with time and patience, Teddy is the one for you! We have a LOT of experience with the super shy ones, and we KNOW they all come out of their shell and end up being easy peasy companions full of gratitude and love.

Teddy also has an enlarged esophagus and needs to be fed WET FOOD (not kibble) or he will throw it up. With wet food he has been fine for 2 straight weeks - so far (starting in early March)! Yay!

More about this rescue

S.T.A.R.T. (A 501c3 non-profit) was formed in May 2011 by Steve Spiro, Suzanna Urszuly, Rene Ruston and Adam Tarshsis.

We began raising money and transporting dogs from high kill shelters here in California and sending them via our van or plane to Oregon, Washington (WA) and Canada where they go to reputable no kill shelters or foster homes.
To date we have transported over 5,800 doomed death row dogs who are placed into loving homes. Our reputation is growing as is our demand from out of state groups in the north west who know how bad the animal situation in LA is and want to get involved and receive our dogs/cats.

We have also started a second division of our group which is SPAY - NEUTER: this is where we believe the real animal control problem lies. Over 4,000,000 unwanted animals are killed each year in the US because of breeding and unfixed pets. We are planning to raise money to fund low income families to fix their dogs and have had several meeting with city and county shelters to help fund a spay/neuter program. We have already set up our first program where we fund 60 dogs to be spay/neutered monthly in Riverside County.
