My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WAITLISTED - STILL ACCEPTING INTEREST

Introducing Hazel Honeybadger!

Playful Cuddly Adventurous Curious

Hi, I’m Hazel Honeybadger! A playful, affectionate Great Dane with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Whether I’m tossing around my squeaky toys, zooming through the yard, or snuggling up with my favorite humans, I’m always bringing joy and excitement wherever I go!

I’m a friendly and social girl who loves hanging out with people—especially men! I enjoy the company of women, too, but I have a special soft spot for the guys. I may get a little too excited and jump up on people, so my forever home should be mindful of that. I haven’t spent much time around kids, but I prefer calm, dog-savvy ones—children 12+ would be best for me.

When it comes to other dogs, I need slow introductions and then I do very well! I am currently living with and enjoying free roam and playtime with two resident danes. Medium - Large/giant breed dogs would be great companions for me, preferably with submissive personalities.....I don't like growlers. I’ve also done well with dog-savvy cats, but if a cat is nervous or runs from me, I may chase or bark at them.

What I Love

  • Toys with squeakers—I love to entertain myself!

  • Chew bones—Perfect for passing the time.

  • Snuggling—I have a sweet and cuddly side!

  • Walks & outdoor adventures—Especially playing in streams or pools!

  • Car rides—I’m the best co-pilot!

What I Don’t Love

  • Dogs who growl at me—I prefer friendly playmates!

  • Loud voice corrections—I have sensitive feelings.

  • Squirrels—I’ll chase them every time!

I’m a smart girl who knows lots of commands: sit, paw, hug, down, stay, leave it, give/drop, back up, and off. I’m also great with nail trims, ear cleanings, and even eye drops! My vet says I’m a model patient.

I’m housebroken and both crate-trained and trustworthy with free roam. While I love being with my people, I can handle being alone for 8+ hours if needed. I do get excited on walks and pull at first, so my forever family should continue helping me with leash manners and reinforcing boundaries.

I’m in great health! My third eyelid is slightly visible, but my vet and an ophthalmologist confirmed there are no concerns. I don’t let it slow me down one bit!

Forever Home Wishlist

  • Fenced yard required if in town (Invisible fence is fine in a rural setting).

  • No children under 12 due to my excitement and zoomies!

  • No apartments—I do bark sometimes when left alone.

  • Ideal home would include a playful large-breed dog or an adopter willing to engage in play with me!

Fun Fact: I love wearing clothes, jackets, and winter boots—fashionable and practical! I can catch toys in my mouth, enjoy running with ATVs and golf carts, and even stood calmly during a fireworks show. Nothing fazes me!

I’m looking for an active, playful home where I can continue to shine. If you’re looking for a fun-loving and affectionate Great Dane to add to your family, I might be the perfect match!

More about this rescue

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes.

Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heartworm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. All dogs are sterilized before being re homed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever.
