My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Special foster or adopter needed to help Janet blossom.

BASICS:
– Female
– 10 months old (DOB 1/28/2025)
– 55ish pounds
– Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped
-- Dog friendly
-- Very very shy and timid at first, needs to build confidence
-- LOVES WATER, believes she is a fish

BACKSTORY: Janet was born in our care after we rescued her mama pregnant. Unfortunately, due to no interest, she stayed with a sibling far longer than she should have and developed littermate syndrome. When the last sister left, Janet’s confidence plummeted. She is making progress, but really needs to be in a foster/adopter home where she can receive more one on one attention and be more integrated into a home. That is the critical component to Janet’s growth that she is missing.

PERSONALITY: Janet is so very loving and sweet once she trusts you. When she is scared, she likes for her human to kneel down so she can throw her arms around for a comfort hug. She loves hard – she just needs time, patience, and understanding to build trust. Extremely shy and skittish at first or anywhere out of her comfort zone currently, but zero aggression. She just simply lacks confidence and does not know how to navigate the world independently without her sibling. She will be ***flight risk***.

FAVORITE THINGS: Water, playing with other dogs, her trusted people. She is obsessed with water and has been since she could walk. Kiddie pools, buckets, water bowls: she does not discriminate. If she can fit any part of her body in it – she will!

DOGS: Janet does great with other dogs and would really benefit from having another confident dog in the home.

CATS: One brief experience with cats back this summer – didn’t pay them much attention and she seemed more scared of them than anything. We can do another brief intro as that a while ago; HOWEVER, brief intros do *not* say how a dog will do living with them. They can help rule out any immediately observable prey drive, but only physically living with them and proper intros can determine cat compatibility.

KIDS: Young kids make a lot of busy fast movements, which is not a match for Janet currently

ADOPTION FEE: Janet’s adoption fee has been sponsored/covered for an approved adopter, thanks to a very kind person cheering her on and hoping to help her along my way.

AVAILABILITY: Available for foster, foster-to-adopt (FTA), or adoption. FTA is a two week commitment-free and pressure-free trial run to make sure things are a match before sealing the deal. Janet would benefit immensely from even just finding a foster to work with her more, help her confidence grow and realize the world is not so scary outside of her small bubble.

LOCATION: Currently located in Jackson, GA. We do a home visit with all fosters/adopters, so no need to travel, we come to you anywhere within 2 hours of Jackson, GA!

More about this rescue

Joy’s Promise is a promise to keep fighting for those like Joy. The discarded, unwanted, abused and neglected. It won’t always look like Joy, a pregnant mama facing euthanasia. It might be a pittie sitting animal control for months, years unwanted. It might be a boxer mix from a terrible hoarding case. It might be an owner surrender that lost everything they have ever known. It might be a box of puppies who were tossed without the slightest remorse. Joy’s Promise is a promise for Joy’s death to not be in vain, but a catalyst for more lives saved.

Joy’s Promise Canine Rescue is a registered nonprofit corporation and an actively licensed GDA animal shelter. We are a foster-based organization in the process of filing 501c3 paperwork.
