My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Remi🤎🐾🩷
Remi is a stunning chocolate Lab with a sparkle in her eye and springs in her paws. She’s been waiting patiently at the shelter for five months, perfecting her zoomies and dreaming of a backyard to call her own. This girl is all about playtime, adventure, and soaking up every ounce of attention you’re willing to give.
She’s got a big personality and knows what she likes—especially when it comes to canine companions. Remi can be dog selective, so a meet-and-greet is a must to make sure everyone vibes. But when she clicks with someone, it’s pure magic. Remi’s ideal home? One with active humans who love to move, laugh, and maybe toss a tennis ball or two hundred. She’s ready to trade shelter life for snuggles, squeaky toys, and a spot on your couch (or your hiking trail). Come meet Remi—she’s not just looking for a home, she’s looking for her person. Could that be you?

2. **Submit an Application:**
- Click the link to the adoption application in the pet's bio or in our shelter's description on the Adopt A Pet site.
- Alternatively, visit our website and fill out an application under the **Adopt** tab.

3. **Wait for Approval:**
- Our adoption coordinator will review your application and send an approval email.
- Expect a response within 3 days, though most applicants hear back within 24-48 hours.

4. **Set Up a Visit:**
- After receiving your approval email, respond to it to schedule an appointment or a general time to visit.
- You can also call us to arrange a visit once approved. Our coordinator may contact you via email, call, or text from our shelter phones.

5. **Meet and Greet:**
- Visit the shelter at your scheduled time, meet your potential new friend, and spend some time getting to know them.
- If you have a resident dog, bring them along for a meet and greet to ensure compatibility.

6. **Finalize the Adoption:**
- When you've found your perfect match, head to the lobby to complete the adoption.
- Bring your driver's license and a form of payment. We accept debit, credit, cash, and check. You can also pay via a text link sent to your phone.

7. **Celebrate Your New Friend:**
- Take a "Gotcha Day" picture with your new family member. These photos are featured on our Facebook page monthly to celebrate successful adoptions.
- Join our alumni Facebook page to share updates and see how other adoptees are thriving. Our staff and volunteers love celebrating with you!

Enjoy your new best friend and keep us posted on all the adventures you share!

More about this shelter

Foothills Humane Society (FHS) is a private non-profit, 501(c)3 no-kill animal welfare organization located on eleven acres nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Polk County, North Carolina. We offer adoption-guarantee and serve all of Polk County, North Carolina. Polk County includes the incorporated towns of Columbus, Saluda and Tryon. When capacity permits, we also serve Landrum, Campobello and Gowensville in the northern Greenville and Spartanburg counties of South Carolina. FHS provides service and support for a community of ~25,000 people and ~1,600 animals annually.

FHS is supported by donations, grants, adoption fees, fundraisers and a contract with Polk County Animal Control.

Our Mission is to shelter and care for stray and surrendered companion animals within our community; prevent cruelty to animals; reunite lost animals with their owners; adopt animals to qualified homes or place them with reputable rescue organizations; and educate the public about responsible animal ownership and population control.
