More Info
Adonis is a long haired husky that came to us from New Mexico. He is a very energetic, quiet, and sweet boy that loves long walks and running around in our yard. He plays fetch, knows all his commands, responds well to positive verbal and treat reinforcement, and is very affectionate with people he knows.

Adonis needs his space at first with anything new be it a place, person, another dog, or things happening around him. Giving him the time and space to become comfortable with the person or situation helps and eventually he comes around and will investigate and warm up to you. Once he knows a person is ok to trust then the rest is easy, and you see his true personality come out when his barriers come down. When Adonis was exposed to a couple volunteers in the past without this time and space, he did bite them out of fear or being defensive. He has not bitten anyone, shown aggression, or possession issues to those that he has a relationship with and trusts.

Adonis, we feel would be a good fit for a quiet home with a large fenced in yard for him to explore, or with an active owner that will take him for long walks. He has shown to be fine with kids 10 years of age or older from walks with a volunteer family that has spent time with him. We do feel that at this time it is best that he be the only dog in the home.

The key with Adonis as mentioned is trust, as he has built that with volunteers we see more of the sweet, playful dog that we know he is. If someone is willing to provide him a low stress home and consistency in working with him, he will be a loyal companion for years to come.

This dog requires an adopter to come out to the rescue three times in order to build up trust and form a bond with this dog before going home. Please talk to your adoption coordinator regarding the behaviors we have been working with this particular dog and the training techniques we have seen improvement with. We will also need the name and number of the trainer you plan on using before they will go home.

Additional adoption info

We review and pre-screen applications in the order they are received. If we have any immediate questions or concerns, we contact you by email. If the application looks good on paper, we have one of our Adoption Coordinators call for a phone interview. We'll check references (including landlord and vet if appropriate). Depending on the responsiveness of the references, this step can take some time. Our adoption screening process allows us to get to know you and your family, so that we can make informed suggestions about dogs that would best suit your personality, lifestyle, and household (including other adults, kids, current dogs, and cats).

If you are approved for adoption, we'll then arrange a time for you to come to the rescue and meet some of the rescue dogs. Because we are an all volunteer run organization, we need to schedule a time for you to visit the rescue. Appointment times are limited and are reserved for individuals/families who have been approved for adoption. We require all household members, including current dogs, to be present at the appointment. The meet and greet helps to ensure that the dog is a good match for your family in general and any current dog(s) in particular. Current dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccines, on Heartworm prevention medication, and kept inside as indoor family members (per the terms and conditions of our Adoption Contract).

We cannot hold dogs and cannot guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of the appointment. We also suggest that you review our website (http://huskyrescue.org/rescueanimals.php) for the most current information and do your best to identify a few dogs that you may be interested in. Additionally, if you can explain why you've selected them that also helps us to identify the characteristics that are most important to you which will assist us in making a better match between you and a potential dog.

If an adoption match is made, you should be prepared to provide a deposit by cash or check. A minimum of ½ of the adoption fee is required. Note that adoption fees vary by age of the dog. Please visit our website for a detailed scale and information about what the adoption fee covers.

You will then schedule a delivery date. The dog will be groomed prior to going home and delivered at a later scheduled date with all medical records. Dogs will not be delivered the same day as the adoption appointment. We must transport the dog to you in order to do a home inspection at the time of delivery.

If you meet the above requirements with your current dog/cat, are over 21, within a four-hour drive of Harvard, IL and are interested in adopting through us, please fill out an application at http://huskyrescue.org/index.php.

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at adoptions@huskyrescue.org.

We look forward to receiving your application.
