Meet Canelo (Nelly)

Canelo, affectionately known as Nelly, is a sweet and gentle soul looking for a calm, confident leader to be his guide in life. Under the right leadership, he truly shines trusting his person to direct, guide, and protect him.

Nelly is sound-sensitive and feels safest when his owner ensures that other dogs or people dont rush up to him. Sudden approaches can be overwhelming and even terrifying for him. He prefers to take his time getting to know someone as a leader before hes ready to show his affectionate side. With dogs, he builds strong friendships through calm, structured pack walking starting at a safe distance until he learns they are not a threat. Hes easily pushed out of his comfort zone if another dog is overly excited or invades his personal space, so environments like dog parks with unpredictable, high-energy interactions would be extremely stressful for him. Nelly is more of an introvert, preferring calm, structured socialization and taking a cautious approach to most new experiences.

Thanks to consistent training, Nellys confidence has grown to the point that he no longer needs anxiety medication having clear rules, structure, and boundaries, along with outlets to drain his mental and physical energy, are all the medicine he needs. He absolutely loves wobble balls and enrichment toys, which keep him happily engaged, and hes fantastic in his crate, which he sees as his place of calm and relaxation.

Nelly will thrive in a home that understands the importance of guidance, advocacy, and providing a safe, structured environment. Once trust is built, his affectionate nature blossoms, and he becomes a loyal, loving companion with both people and dogs he knows well.

If youre ready to be the calm, steady presence Nelly needs, hell reward you with unwavering trust, endless love, and a bond that only grows stronger with time.

Additional adoption info

R.E.B.E.L Dog Rescue is looking for committed adopters, ready to bring a rescue dog into their life. In order to ensure that we find the best homes for our dogs, adoption applicants must go through an adoption approval process. We receive a number of applications for each dog and only one will be chosen as the successful candidate. Candidates are selected based on the dog's needs. Not being selected for the dog that you applied for does not disqualify you from adopting from us in the future.

Go meet their pets

We do our very best to place our dogs into adoptive homes before they arrive into Canada. This ensures that they have a safe and loving place to go after their long journey up North. All dogs adopted through R.E.B.E.L Dog Rescue will receive a 15 day adoption probation period. This period starts the day the dog enters the care of the adopter. This means that the adoptive family has 15 days to determine that dog is a good fit for them. Although it may feel scary to not meet the dog before adopting, the 15 day period allows you to get to know the dog within your home. If you buy a dog off of Kijiji or at a local shelter you may be given a couple hours to meet the dog. We believe that our program's 15 day probation provides much more insight into how he or she will fit into your home, rather than. a brief meet and greet.
