My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Declan!

This 3-year-old, 57-pound brindle pittie mix is equal parts lovebug, shadow, and goofball—and he’s ready to charm his way into your heart.

Declan lives for silly songs, especially if they include his name. Say it in a goofy voice and you’ll be rewarded with full-body wiggles, zoomies, and a prompt rear-end presentation for optimal scratch access.

He’s smart, food-motivated, and knows an impressive list of commands and tricks including: sit, stay, down, leave it, drop it, come, up, off, paw, spin, and even “under.” Declan loves training sessions almost as much as he loves treats.

At home, he’s a curious companion who wants to be wherever the action is. Whether you’re unpacking boxes, rearranging furniture, or just moving from room to room, Declan is always ready to supervise with his sniffer on high alert.

While he can entertain himself with toys, Declan prefers interactive play like tug, toy toss, or food puzzles with his people nearby. He’s mostly a chill guy, lounging quietly between brief bursts of playfulness—and don’t worry, he won’t be the one waking you up early. He’s a dream of a morning dog, content to stay curled up until you’re ready to start the day.

Declan enjoys his walks and is working on polite leash manners. He walks well in calm settings, but his prey drive kicks in for squirrels and cats, and he can get overexcited when passing other dogs. He’s making great progress with continued training and support.

This sweet guy is a cuddle pro and truly believes he’s a lapdog. He melts into affection and loves napping next to (or on) his people. He’s also a social butterfly on walks—he’s always thrilled when someone wants to say hello, though he’s still learning to keep all four paws on the ground.

More about this rescue

PupStarz Rescue is an animal welfare group committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs and cats in public shelters at high risk of euthanasia, as well as those in danger of abuse. We are committed to rescuing as many animals as possible, saving over 4,500 dogs and cats since 2015.

PupStarz Rescue is a foster-based rescue, relying on fosters to open their homes and lives to our Animals. Animals in our care receive proper medical care, including alteration, vaccinations, and microchipping.

Following a thorough screening, our animals are placed in loving, responsible, committed forever homes. PupStarz Rescue ensures that adoptions are an appropriate match for both the animal and their new family by educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a furry companion into their lives.

We are committed to the welfare of our "Starz" beyond the adoption process. We maintain open communication with our adopters to ensure a smooth transition, and offer additional support such as positive training techniques.

Founded in 2015, PupStarz Rescue is a non-profit, 501(c)3, no-kill, animal rescue organization.
