Meet Cyrus, a 91-pound bundle of personality with a heart just as big as his paws. This handsome 2½-year-old boy came back to the shelter through no fault of his own when he decided that living with cats just wasn’t his thing. Cyrus would much prefer a home where he can be the only king of the small critter kingdom—no cats or tiny furry roommates, please.
Cyrus is the kind of dog who wakes up every day excited about life. Walk? Yes please. Car ride? Don’t mind if he does. Random pond along the way? Even better—he’s ready to jump right in. He walks nicely on leash and enjoys staying close to his person, though every now and then his enthusiasm for adventure sneaks in and he will pull. A strong handler is needed. With his high energy and joyful spirit, Cyrus would love an active family that enjoys getting outside and making the most of the day.
Despite his big size, Cyrus is a very polite house guest. He keeps his kennel clean and has proven that he can be respectful in a home environment without being destructive. Crates aren’t really his style, but give him a comfy spot and some people to hang out with and he’s perfectly content. He already knows several commands like sit, down, stay, paw, and even “gentle” when accepting treats, which he happily soaks up whenever they’re offered.
Cyrus grew up with other large dogs and did well, so he may enjoy a canine sibling his size after a proper meet and greet. He’s also good with kids, though because he’s such a big, enthusiastic guy, a home with older children would probably be the best fit.
One more important detail about this lovable goofball: Cyrus is a serious foodie. Peanut butter, strawberries, cucumbers, blueberries—if it’s snack time, he’s ready to participate with great enthusiasm. Treats, adventures, belly rubs, butt scratches, and maybe the occasional splash in a pond are pretty much his recipe for happiness.
Cyrus is already neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and waiting for his next chapter. He’s available through the foster-to-adopt program while he finishes up his vetting and updated vaccines. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick who’s equal parts playful, curious, and loving, Cyrus is your guy. Reach out to dogadoptions@parmashelter.org and fill out an adoption application to come meet this big, happy boy. Cyrus adoption fee is $160.

Additional adoption info
At Parma Animal Shelter, we do not adopt our animals out as gifts or surprises. We believe that adopting a pet is a significant commitment and should be a well-considered decision. Therefore, we reserve the right to refuse any adoption to ensure the best match for both the animal and the adopter.
All of our animals are microchipped, tested for disease, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and internal parasites, and given lots of loving care during their stay with us. We are dedicated to meeting their medical needs and do our best to socialize them.
If you have questions about any of our cats, please feel free to email us at catadoptions@parmashelter.org. Our volunteers are more than happy to provide information about their personalities and any recommendations for the best home environment possible for each individual animal.
