My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

“Dogs are not just pets—they’re family.” And our Gage is ready for a family to take him home!

Why we love him: Gage is so gentle and good natured. He is four years old and weighs 80 pounds.

Gage has the muscular physique of an Olympic Champion athlete and is such a sweetheart! He is the resident hunk of our kennels!

One of our volunteers says:"I have walked Gage a few times and he’s been easygoing. He doesn’t mind the under harness and does well with it on. Gage loves treats and takes them gently. Treats may also earn you some kisses! Gage knows sit and wants to please. He is solid muscle without an ounce of fat on him. Gage also loves going to the play yard. He has brought me toys from his kennel while I leash him up and it is the cutest!"

Another volunteer took Gage on an outing and they had a nice ride and a visit to a local park. Gage also enjoyed going to Sonic for a pup cup. He jumped right into the car and rode well. Gage was very alert and looked out the window during the drive. He really enjoyed himself!

Gage has so much fun playing in the fenced yard and especially loves the toys. He will go to the toy box and pick out the ones he wants to play with! Gage also had the best time splashing around in the doggy pool during the warmer months. He loves to run and is so agile and athletic. Once he is done, Gage enjoys sitting with you to be petted and to hang out to enjoy the day. We truly enjoy his company!

Gage is a bright dog who should do well learning any commands you want to teach him. He has already mastered sit and will offer you his paw to shake.

Gage has loved meeting some of his fellow shelter companions in play groups. If you have another dog, we do require a meet and greet to ensure compatibility. He does prefer the company of female dogs.

Gage really enjoys hanging out in the office of our Animal Control officers. He loves it when they hide treats and has so much fun discovering them!

Lucky Gage spent some time in the home of one of our dedicated volunteers. He settled in well and had a great time. One of his very favorite things was spending time in the back yard and playing with the toys.

Gage will be a good friend to be at your side during the day and curl up at your feet at night. He is such a special dog!

We are so grateful to Joel Alexander for his beautiful photos of our dogs.

More about this shelter

Cheatham County Animal Control is committed to finding good homes for the animals that come into the shelter system. We work with rescues and adopters. We are a no kill shelter but we rely on people coming in to adopt!

All of our cats/dogs receive vaccinations that are appropriate for the age and health when they are at animal control. We also spay and neuter all of our animals. The adopter is responsible for all vaccinations and medical care after adoption.
