Hi, I’m Dixie! I’m a 4-year-old, 45-pound Shepherd/Hound mix with a sweet, gentle spirit and a happy-go-lucky personality. I’m very affectionate and love being close to my people—if you’re watching a movie, I’ll be right there next to you, ready to snuggle.
I came to this shelter as a transfer from Conway Animal Control after being sadly abandoned by my previous owners. Despite that tough start, I’ve kept my tail wagging and my heart open. At Conway, I did great in doggie playgroups and adapted easily to different play styles. I’d thrive in a home with another friendly dog to play and bond with!
I’m high energy when it’s time to play, but I’m also very well-mannered—I don’t jump up on people, and I know how to take it easy when it’s time to chill. I walk well on a leash, do great in a crate, and hop into a car like a pro. I’m shy at first, but it doesn’t take long for me to warm up. Once I do, I’m all tail wags and gentle kisses.
I know how to use a doggie door, and while I haven’t been officially declared housebroken, I always do my business outside of my kennel—which is a pretty good sign! Oh, and I’m microchipped too, so I’m already one step closer to going home with you.

If there is any problem with your adopted pet, call us to work out a solution. Occasionally, we do take adopted pets back, but very seldom. This is why visiting our shelter is so important! We are willing to work with you! And we appreciate referrals!
