My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You know Oscar the Grouch? The cranky puppet in a trash can with a heart of (eventually revealed) gold? Well, meet his feline counterpart: Oscar the Orange, a slightly crusty, deeply endearing gentleman who has the same “don’t touch me—I’m fragile” energy… but in the most heartbreakingly adorable way.

Oscar hasn’t quite made it to the cuddles-and-kisses phase of life. He’s not a lap cat, he’s a “sit near you and glare suspiciously while purring softly under his breath” kind of guy. He’s not looking for a soulmate who’s going to smother him with affection just yet—but he is looking for someone kind, patient, and gentle. Someone who understands that love, for Oscar, is a slow burn. A quiet presence. A warm bed. A soft voice. A human who will work with him, not try to change him.

And if you're a fan of cats with a little bit of edge and a whole lot of potential, Oscar is your guy.

He’s incredibly polite with other cats—submissive, respectful, and always willing to wait his turn. He’ll let others hiss at him without so much as a hiss back. No drama, just diplomacy. His past may have been rough (we don’t talk about his McGregor era—he was tougher back then), but Oscar has come such a long way. The fact that he’s graduated to "Oscar the Grouch" is actually a major glow-up, trust us.

Oscar is for the quiet homes, the soft-spoken cat whisperers, the people who understand that the best things in life are earned slowly and with great care.

He doesn’t need fireworks—he just needs a place to land, a window to sun in, and a person who sees the value in a once-scrappy soul learning to soften.

More about this shelter

The Animal Welfare League is a non-profit organization committed to advocating for animal protection and welfare. We are based in Port Charlotte, Florida. Since 1963 our shelter has served the Charlotte County community by providing a temporary home, medical service and caring attention for many dogs, cats and other animals. These animals come to us as strays, pets given up by their owners, unfortunate animals rescued from abuse and neglect, or simply lost pets in need of being re-united with their families.
