My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET TOADSTOOL!

Do they make them any cuter? Toadstool is around 10-12 years old and joined City of Elderly Love after a local TNR non-profit reached out asking for help. They had been caring for Toadstool for years while she lived with a managed cat colony. As Toadstool was getting older, she appeared to not be feeling as well and they thought it was time for this friendly little lady to find a retirement home instead of living her twilight years outdoors.

Once indoors, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which explained why she didn't appear to be feeling well. Hyperthyroidism is common in older cats and relatively easy to treat. She's now on an affordable daily medication called Mathimazole to treat it and is feeling and looking so much better! Toadstool had no trouble adjusting to indoor life. She's currently living with other cats and dogs. She's not as welcoming with the cats and will sometimes tolerate sharing the couch with them, doesn't seem to want to share her space with them now that she has her own space. Toadstool is funny with the dog in her foster home. She isn't afraid to give her a good swat when annoyed but then five minutes later, will jump up on the couch to snuggle next to her. Toadstool will need a slow introduction to new pets to ensure they can all adjust to each other in time.

Toadstool is a precious little cat who is either following you around the house to see what you're up to or curled up in her favorite spot. Right now it's a cat bed next to the stove where she can be in the mix of everything while not having to exert any energy. True diva energy! She is also currently living with small children and is friendly and tolerant with them. She even supervises bath time!

Toadstool is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire!

More about this rescue

Operating as an independent subsidiary of Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia, City of Elderly Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to saving and enriching the lives of adoptable senior pets in the Philadelphia area. Utilizing volunteer foster homes, City of Elderly Love aims to rescue these animals from potential euthanasia at area animal shelters as well as prevent older animals from entering the shelter-system in the first place, when possible. City of Elderly Love also provides palliative and hospice care when needed. Through creative marketing and community events, City of Elderly Love works to place its adoptable pets into loving adoptive homes.
