My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Raquel, but my foster mom often calls me Princess, which makes me feel so special. I was left outside of Chicago Animal Care and Control's outdoor dog runs where I was found cowering in fear. Thankfully, Heartland came along and saved me. I’m working on learning to trust again and have made great progress.

After spending some time at Heartland, the wonderful people realized that the bustling and noisy shelter life was not for me. They found me foster homes where I am treated like the special royal kitty that I am. I am now searching for a forever home to be my fairy tale ending.

Let me tell you a bit more about myself …..

Although I don’t need to be sitting on your lap all the time (which I LOVE, by the way), I do enjoy having you home and will hang out wherever you may be. I like looking out the window to watch the birdies and dog walkers. While I won’t pester you if you are busy, if I deem that you are working too hard or too long, I will plop myself onto your lap so you must take a well-needed break and give me the scratchies & pets that I love & deserve.

I’m not (too) fussy of an eater. I love chunky wet food - especially Fancy Feast. Crunchy treats are yummy, but the way to my heart is Squeeze Ups, string cheese and deli turkey. I have the best ‘sad-kitty’ eyes that will make your heart melt and hopefully entice you to offer a few more treats or play a game with me. I appreciate a catnip mouse chase or wand toy session. Playing tag with my foster mom is also great fun, and I always win.

I am the bestest girl and always use my litter box. I don’t jump on counters, explore garbage cans, or chew on things I’m not supposed to.

Sadly, I am still fearful of being picked up or held tightly. Foster mom and I are working on this and I will now allow her to lift me up a bit when I’m sitting on her lap to receive a gentle hug and little kisses on my head. I’m also learning to let her touch my feetsies so that we can address nail clipping.

I relish a quiet life and can be a bit wary of strangers. I prefer to be in a calm home with adults only. I may be shy when first arriving, but your patience will be rewarded.

Come meet me at my foster home and we can discuss my happily ever after!

Email cats@heartlandanimalshelter.org to set up a time to meet me!

Raquel is spayed, up-to-date on FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations, and FIV and FeLV negative.
