My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Jade, a gentle, soft-grey beauty born in 2020 with a heart as tender as her name suggests. She’s a shy soul at first glance—one of those cats who prefers to observe quietly from a safe spot until she feels certain she’s in good hands. But once she decides you’re trustworthy? The transformation is pure magic.

In the shelter, we’ve watched Jade bloom with volunteers and visitors who take their time, move slowly, and let her approach at her own pace. She leans into that kindness, revealing a sweet, affectionate cat who simply needed patience to shine.

And when it comes to other cats? Jade is a superfan. She has never met a feline she didn’t immediately want to greet with a loving headbutt, a gentle rub, or a show of friendly solidarity. A home with another calm, cat-social companion would likely help her feel even more secure.

Jade is looking for a quiet home and an adopter who understands that the best relationships aren’t rushed—they’re built. Maybe you’re someone who enjoys peaceful days, soft voices, and calm routines. Maybe you describe yourself as “old at heart,” someone who loves to sit by the window with a good book and a Werther’s Original slowly melting away. If that sounds like you, Jade might be your perfect match.

Give her time, and Jade will give you trust, companionship, and all the sweet, quiet love you could hope for. She’s ready to thrive—she just needs her person.

Additional adoption info

1) The first step to meet the cats at Animal House is to email us at AHcatadoption@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name, age, address, and phone number. We will respond as soon as possible to answer your questions and schedule an appointment to visit our shelter. If you have already submitted an inquiry through Adopt-a-Pet or Petfinder about a particular cat, there is no need to send a separate email.
2) During your appointment, you will complete a questionnaire and work with an adoption coordinator to find the cat that is right for you. This process may involve meeting with numerous cats, or even making more than one visit to Animal House. You and your new cat will live together for a lifetime, so this step is important.
3) Before adoption, we ensure that your cat has been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
4) When your adoption is finalized, the adoption paperwork is completed and a $130 adoption fee for adult cats and $150 for kittens is collected.

More about this shelter

Animal House Cat Rescue and Adoption Center is a private, non-profit, “no-kill” organization dedicated to providing the homeless, abandoned cats and kittens of St. Louis with a better life. We are committed to maintaining an adoption center that provides a safe, healthy and enriching environment, and our goal is a solid and lasting adoption for every cat and kitten in our care.

Animal House opened in 2010 when the City of St. Louis closed its municipal shelter and ended a number of services for stray animals. Not only did the 75 cats residing in their shelter need a place to go, the St. Louis community needed services for abandoned, homeless cats. Animal House was born out of that need. Today we house 100-250 cats and kittens at any given time.

The cats and kittens at Animal House are rescued from the streets of our community and often come from challenging circumstances that include neglect, abandonment, or injury. We have created a safe place where cats in need find shelter, medical and nutritional support, individualized socialization and interaction, enrichment, lots of love, and the opportunity to connect with a loving, lifelong family. We impose no time limit on this process, giving each cat or kitten the time they need. We emphasize matchmaking throughout our adoption process to ensure the best possible match.
