My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Animal Profile: Nyla is an estimated 10-12 month old 60lb spayed female German Shepherd who will be joining us from Texas, where she was found emaciated and with a degloved tail that needed to be amputated. She has recovered from this surgery and has a cute little bob tail now which somehow looks adorable, and matches her soft and affectionate personality. At the Freer shelter she is friendly and playful with other dogs and has a soft temperament. She's motivated by treats as well as affection, maybe even more so affection. She has not exhibited any prey drive to cats and was neutral/disinterested meeting them at the shelter. Nyla is the older sibling of Tequila who we took into rescue early 2025. We will share more information about Nyla as we get to know her in foster care.

Foster Update:   Nyla is such a lovely girl! She is shy with new people at first but warms up quickly and loves to roll over for a belly rub from her trusted people. She is doing well with the smaller resident dog in her foster home and is interested in playing, but takes corrections well when other dogs aren’t interested. Nyla is SO SMART! She knows her name and will make eye contact when hearing it. She knows "sit," and she's quickly picking up an implied stay and the release word "break." We are also working on loose leash walking, "kennel," and "get dressed" (putting slip lead on), and she is making quick progress. She is not a huge fan of her crate, as she would prefer to hang out with her people, however, she will sleep through the night and is making progress on crate training during the day. She did well on her “cat test” at the shelter and we think she would be fine living with cats with proper introductions. Nyla is a solid working dog with an eagerness to know what's going on and how she can "do good." We are so excited for the amazing life Nyla is going to have with the lucky family who adopts this sweet girl!

Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.

Animal History: Nyla was found as a stray in rural Texas in poor condition -- emaciated and with a degloved tail. This dog is being transferred from our TX rescue partner Saving Shelter Strays and will be arriving via Byrdie Express on Thursday 4/17. She will be fostered in the greater Seattle area and available for adoption once evaluated in foster care.
