My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Dolly is bonded to three pigs, so we are looking to place them all in a home where they will stay together!***

These 4 came to us from a hoarding case, where they and 60 or so other pigs had been left pretty much on their own, having to fend for themselves to find food and the only water source was a pond, covered mostly in green scum. We took these 4 because they were in the worst shape out of all of them.

In her life before rescue Dolly had survived Meningeal worms, leaving her with some neurological deficiencies, but she doesn't let that stop her! Because of this, she has a pretty unique way of walking (a little bit sideways, like a crab!) and if she lays down the wrong way, she'll get stuck and will need some help getting up. We're guessing that she's about 12 years old or so, but unfortunately don't have any way to really tell.

Bertram is the old man of the group and we're guessing that he's about 20 yrs old. He's a pretty vocal grumpy old man but loves treats, so you can bribe your way into his heart in no time! He has some arthritis in his hooves due to his age and poor breeding, but is well managed on daily anti-inflammatory medication.

Betty and Bernard are the more outgoing duo of the group and are the two who actually enjoy when they get attention, rather than just tolerating it like the other two. When they first came to us, Betty had been so overweight that she was fat-blind, so she's been on a weight loss program and is at a good and healthy weight now!

Bernard is an absolute sweetheart who is ready to go with the flow, whatever's happening, and is just a really chill dude overall who loves belly rubs and being the little spoon. He is also on daily oral medication as well as monthly pain medication injections to help with severe front leg arthritis that will require veterinary monitoring throughout his life.

These 4 have gone through a lot together, so our goal is to find a sanctuary or home that is able to take all 4 of them so they can stay together.

If that's you, check out waywardranch.org to fill out an application!

More about this rescue

Our Mission: To provide a quality life to the animals that need it most.

Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary, Inc. is a 501c3, tax exempt non-profit organization and all donations to our sanctuary are tax deductible.

The Dream:

Wayward Ranch was founded by three friends who, after working for other rescues for a long time, realized there was something missing from the average rescue model. No animal is perfect, and in the typical shelter system any behavioral concerns an animal had coming in are just exacerbated the longer they are kenneled or caged waiting for a home.

Many local shelters have taken to shipping puppies up from the south because they are more “adoptable” than the shelter animals we have here. However, this just floods are market and takes homes and resources from our local animals who are suffering as a result.

We are committed to a different type of rescue experience. We are a unique combination of adoption and sanctuary facility, taking the pressure of euthanasia away from animals who may not be generically adoptable. We also help our animals thrive, rather than deteriorate, as they wait for forever homes using a combination of enrichment and training techniques.
