Here's what the humans have to say about me:
🩵HOBBES🩵
German Shorthaired Pointer Mix
13 years old
62.5 pounds
Located in Brampton, ON
Hobbes is a very loving boy. He is a senior who enjoys his naps and independence but he still loves to be active. He knows many words and commands like sit, stay, come, let's go, lay down, go to your bed, walk and car. He is completely house trained and does amazing when left alone at home. He does not chew up things, have accidents and he rarely barks. He is extremely happy when you return home and well bounce and lick you all over.
He is shy when first meeting you and it takes him time to learn that you are safe. It took him 3 days of careful decompressing with his foster mom before he even wanted to be pet by her, after one week he was completely comfortable and showing his true happy, loving self. The quickest way to build a trusting relationship with him is through walks and hikes on leash.
Hobbes likes long walks, a comfy bed and LOVES car rides. He walks beautifully on a leash but is sometimes nervous when passing other dogs in the street.
For a short time in 2021 Hobbes lived in shelters. He was attacked by other dogs twice. Once injuring his neck quite badly. Before those incidents Hobbes was trusting of other dogs and played nicely with them but since the attacks it's really hard for him to trust other dogs. For the past 3 years Hobbes had little to no interactions with other animals. In his current foster home Hobbes is living with another large dog and a pet rabbit. He pays no attention to the pet bunny and shows zero prey drive towards her. However with the in house dog it took extremely slow and proper introduction for him to learn that his new foster sister is safe, he shows no interest in playing with her but does walk nicely together with her on leash and is comfortable laying next to her to sleep. He will actually follow her into whichever room she is in. If she is being to hyper around him, or he wants to be alone he will communicate to her with a growl or a bark to let her know to back off.
Hobbes is nervous around people and it takes time to build a trusting relationship, he would do best in a home with no children.
