My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Bakugo was brought in by a community member on April 16, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Bakugo: part turtle, part tank, all attitude. This red-eared slider is ready to waddle into your life and claim a sunbathing rock as his throne. He may be small, but he's got big ambitions - mainly involving basking and swimming laps. Red-eared sliders like Bakugo aren't native to California, which means he's looking for a secure, well-prepared setup where he won't get the chance to launch any unauthorized field trips into the ecosystem. His ideal bachelor pad? A spacious outdoor pond with clean water, lots of sunlight and good filtration, or a giant indoor tank (100+ gallons) if you're going for that luxury suite vibe. Bakugo is an omnivore with a taste for the good stuff. Sure, he'll snack on turtle pellets like a champ, but he needs a species-appropriate diet with variety - think leafy greens, insects and a well-balanced turtle menu that says "I'm here for a good and long time." And yes, he's got that 20+ year lifespan, so be ready for a long-term commitment with a guy who never forgets where his heat lamp is. If you're ready to upgrade your life with a reptilian roommate who keeps things chill (literally and figuratively), Bakugo is ready to meet you. Don't forget to bring a secure carrier for a safe transport home - he may not have legs built for speed, but he's definitely got places to be.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
