Sam is the 'I just want one, walks on a harness, perfect orange' that everyone is seeking. He is a large, goofy, energetic, and chatty cat who is ready to take center stage in your home. When he joined us, he had a volatile combination of fear-based and play aggression that left his caretaker feeling helpless to support him. Our director has worked diligently with him since March 2025 and is currently looking for a 'dog-person' to adopt what she describes as a 'noodley, GSD puppy'. Yosemite Sam has many SUPER powers including yodeling, puzzle solving, super speed and strength-but like any hero, he has a tragic flaw that his foster mom is resolving one day at a time.
Sam gets overstimulated quickly, and it causes him to react aggressively out of fear. He is also very affectionate but insecure. His previous caretaker saved him from an unknown situation that has left him lasting trauma. One of his attention seeking behaviors is to circle your ankles while maintaining contact; this behavior maximizes his ability to get your attention and mark you with his facial pheromones. If you attempt to break his contact with your legs, it is not uncommon for him to bite or swipe. His ideal home would offer secure, indoor and outdoor access, have no more than two confident/assertive felines, and cat savvy adults. He is continually exposed to livestock guardian dogs and small terriers without incident. We feel it would be best if he did not go to a home with children since he has a poor understanding of how strong/sharp he is. We are able to trim his nails, pick him up, hold him and he loves being slung over your shoulder like a sack of potatoes! Sam has come a long way since March and we look forward to meeting the home he's been waiting for.
This foster home belongs to our Director and works with the cats who are considered unadoptable when they arrive. This home specializes in cats who have been abused, neglected, abandoned, and who have severe medical concerns upon arrival. They are also our spicy kitten socialization guru and their superheroes are always learning new skills. This home has 2 large, low energy dogs, multiple foster cats, and frequent visitors.

Our Hero Academy students earn a cape after completing basic litter box, nail trimming, scratching post, and carrier training with our expert volunteers. Fosters are microchipped, combo tested for FIV/FELV, spayed/neutered, treated for fleas/parasites, and receive age/wellness appropriate vaccines. We lovingly pack a Welcome Home Hero gift bag with their favorite toys, treats, a comic to read with them, and a blanket that helps them feel safe anywhere they go. Super Furiends Rescue is a nonprofit 501c3 organization located in Solano County, CA.

More about this rescue
We work hard to educate the community about why spaying and neutering is important. We only take cats that are non adoptable in shelters which includes feral, abused, abandoned, and traumatized cats and kittens. We heal them inside and out using positive reinforcement and force free techniques. Last, we provide assistance to low income families to help them fix their pets, provide food to feral cat colony managers, and sponsor adoption fees for those who need a pet and can afford their care but not an additional fee.
