My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dante is one of those dogs who approaches life with pure, childlike joy — everything is exciting, everything is good, and everyone he meets is a new friend. Whether he’s outside taking in the world, curled up with a bone while you watch TV, or simply enjoying your company, Dante radiates happiness.

He hasn’t met a person he doesn’t like (vets included), and his enthusiasm is genuinely endearing. Like a toddler still learning the rules of play, Dante can get a little over-excited when he sees other dogs or cats. With slow, structured introductions and continued practice, he may learn to socialize more appropriately with other animals over time. Right now, he benefits most from controlled, positive interactions that help him build those skills.

At home, Dante is a dream companion. He loves his crate, enjoys short walks, and appreciates having quiet time to unwind. He is also reliably house trained — truly like clockwork.

Despite some physical limitations and a tough start to his shelter journey, Dante has blossomed into a loving, joyful, deeply appreciative dog who is so ready for the stability and comfort of a forever home.

More about this shelter

We serve the pets and people in Northern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. Our mission is clear: To take responsibility for each and every orphaned, abandoned, abused or neglected dog and cat which reaches our doors; to take them in and shelter them; to provide the best medical and physical care possible for them; to nurture them back to health if need be; and finally to place them into warm, loving, adoptive homes where they can enjoy the lives they deserve.
