Breed: Black Mouth Cur
Weight: 65 lbs
Age: 1 year, 3 months
About Paula:
Paula is a young, energetic, and playful girl with a big heart and even bigger personality. She loves spending time in the yard with her person, especially playing fetch or squeaking her favorite toys. She’s intelligent, eager to please, and picks up new commands quickly—she already knows sit and lie down, and we’re working on stay.
House & Kennel Habits:
Paula is house trained and has not had accidents indoors. She sleeps comfortably in her kennel at night and seems to be adapting well to house life. We’re still working on leash manners—she’s strong and sometimes a bit headstrong, but she’s improving with time and patience.
Other Animals:
Paula gets along well with other dogs, including a schnauzer she regularly plays with. She’s still working on boundaries with older, less playful dogs. She’s been around cats and usually ignores them unless she wants to play; she responds well when redirected. She’s also been fine around chickens and hasn’t shown prey drive.
Personality & Behavior:
Paula has an affectionate, loyal nature. She wants to bond closely with her person and doesn’t necessarily need another dog for companionship—she’s happy as your one-and-only playmate. She tends to want to be the alpha, so a confident and experienced adopter would be ideal. She has great potential with kids, though she may knock over little ones with her enthusiastic greetings. She also rides well in the car (tethered).
Fun Fact:
The Black Mouth Cur breed was famously featured as the dog in Old Yeller—and Paula certainly lives up to that legacy of loyalty and spirit!
Ideal Home:
Paula would thrive in an active home with a secure yard, consistent guidance, and lots of love. She’s athletic, intelligent, and ready to be your best friend.

Since our formation in early 2013, we have helped save thousands of cats and dogs throughout Idaho from neglect, abuse, and death. Many of our rescues come from the Burley Idaho Animal Shelter where PAWS has transformed what was once a high kill facility to a shelter where every adoptable animal gets a second chance! PAWS also takes in stray pets from all over Idaho including Twin Falls, Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell. We work our very hardest to respond to every call for help!
PAWS Rescue, Inc. saves all breeds of cats and dogs of all ages as well as animals who have been hit by cars, shot, abandoned, abused, and neglected.
Rescued animals are placed in loving foster homes or transferred to other no kill partner facilities giving them a chance to find the perfect forever home. Our efforts give these deserving animals a second chance at a happy life.
Every animal receives veterinary evaluation and care, including spay/neuter and vaccines, as well as treatment for any other medical issue they may have. No animal is ever euthanized due to expense.
