My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In Wayne, NJ: Daphne has been in foster with ASF for several months and despite good interest is still looking for her perfect home. Daphne was rescued, along with her siblings, from a neglectful situation where they were confined to a small space with little human contact for the first year of their lives. As a result, Daphne is looking for a special home that will understand her needs. If Daphne sounds like the dog for you, we’d love for you to apply!

* Laid back, easy-going, quiet and non-demanding

*Not cuddly, as she needs more time to learn how to trust and accept physical affection from people

* A homebody / couch potato that isn’t keen to go adventuring (no thank you to long car rides, hiking, running, kayaking, camping, etc.) – she prefers the comfort and familiarity of her home environment

* Must have another doggy companion as a playmate and to help her build confidence

* Requires a fenced-in yard – her favorite pastime is playing and lounging in the yard

* Use of a crate is okay for short snooze periods, but never locked and not for extended periods of time

* No young children at home due to the attention she will need to come out of her shell

* Someone who works from home or won’t need to leave her alone for much of the day

* Someone who will give her space, time, understanding and love!

Given her history, Daphne is still building trust with people, but she is doing very well and making progress every day. Any potential adopter should not be expecting lots of affection and physical contact from Daphne. She likes to follow her people around and stick close by, but it will take her time to accept lots of petting.

But don't overlook this girl! Daphne is a very low maintenance dog. She is not a barker, preferring to speak with her eyes and cocked head. She's fully housebroken and uses training pads like a champion.

She is not comfortable being leashed and put into a car, even though she is happy to go for rides once inside a vehicle. However, she really prefers to stay close to home, and spend time playing and lounging in her own backyard.

Daphne lives with a diverse pack of dogs and has had several playdates with other pups. She has done well with every dog she has met. She would blossom with another playful dog in the home to help her learn how to trust her humans and be a dog. In the company of a playful dog she gets lost in the moment, relishing in the fun and good times. She shines and it melts your heart.

Daphne has not been tested with cats.

Daphne is being fostered in Wayne, NJ.
