My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nala is a laid-back, very affectionate, 9-year-old gal looking for her forever home! Don't let her resting cranky face fool you, she is a total lover girl!

Nala likes to start her mornings by sleeping comfortably on top of the couch or in her bed, but once she’s awake she’s ready to play! Her favorite toy looks like a worm on a string, and she loves to run and jump after it. Speaking of jumping, Nala is a glorious tri-pawd…having three legs instead of four doesn’t slow her down in the least!

This pretty girl will greet you when you come home from work, and likes to follow you about to see what you’re up to. Her afternoon routine is to take a solid nap to reset, and once dinnertime rolls around, she’s full of energy again.

Her favorite pastimes are looking out the window to people watch and getting pets. She can be reserved at first, but with a few treats and some quality playtime, she will become your best friend in no time!

Nala’s energy level is moderate. She’s not bouncing off the walls, but she’s not a complete couch potato either. She really enjoys playtime when she’s not napping or resting near her people. Typically, a quality play session lasts about 30 minutes, and it’s a good idea to have toys available that she can play with on her own, like a mouse toy or a jingly ball.

Her current living situation is in a one-bedroom apartment of about 600 square feet. There is one person in the household.

Nala’s ideal home is with similarly laid-back, gentle back humans, who can dote on her and keep a quiet and relaxed home. She doesn’t like lots of noise or sudden movements, and wouldn’t do well with children or other pets. A cat tree or couch near a sunny window where she can look outside would also be great. Lots of attention, pets and play is what keeps her thriving! Her ideal forever people would either work from home or be around a lot to give her plenty of love.

Be mindful of loud sounds and sudden movement, as she can be startled easily; this is especially true around new people. Additionally, while some cats are okay with a bit of wrestling or rough and tumble play from their humans, these are not things that should be done with sweet Nala.

Soft-hearted, sunshine-loving, and playfully sweet, Nala is the ultimate companion for anyone seeking a gentle soul with a spark. Could that be with you?

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
