My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*****PLEASE READ ENTIRELY BEFORE APPLYING*****

Our very special, Millie 🩷

This sweet English Cream Golden Retriever is looking for a special, experienced home. She is NOT a "normal golden retriever" that you can take everywhere with you. Please read.

Last fall, Millie was dumped in the woods, most likely by a breeder and very unsocialized. For 2+ months, experienced dog trappers tried to catch Millie and she just evaded everything. She survived both hurricanes alone in the woods and without any shelter 💔 Thankfully, she eventually got stuck in someone’s yard and was able to be captured in November - it was a miracle! This poor girl was full of fleas, ticks and heartworm positive. She has now been in a foster home since, was spayed and completed heartworm treatment! ❤️‍🩹

Millie LOVES dogs and can’t spend one minute without them. You can always find her glued to another dog or blending into a pack hoping that she’s invisible to humans. There isn’t one single dog that Millie wouldn’t like and she would actually love doggy daycare. She is very playful with other dogs and is truly a wonderful girl who is house trained, crate trained, very food motivated, very submissive and would never do a thing wrong. However, she wants nothing to do with humans. She doesn't want to be near you, is fearful when you approach or corner her and the slightest noise can send her into a complete panic.

So, we are looking for a savvy home. Someone very experienced and someone who "gets it" and will follow our instructions to a T with keeping her safe. If she escapes, she will likely never be caught.

Basic criteria:
✔️ She ideally needs a home with 2+ large dogs. She's most comfortable in a pack and we don't feel that one dog will be enough for her.
✔️ She would likely be cat friendly
✔️ Must have a securely 6ft fenced yard. She can jump a shorter fence.
✔️ No children or frequently visiting kids

Most important criteria:
✔️ Someone who NEVER lets their dog off leash, never uses retractable leashes and whose dog never slips out the front door. We need a paranoid helicopter parent who doesn't think it's safe to let their dog run out the front door off leash or be off leash anywhere at all.

She is not for a first time dog owner. She needs to stay as close to Tampa as possible, but no more than an hour away.

If you feel that you could be a potential forever home for her, please complete an application and email us with a little more about you at info@love4pawsfl.org. Millie is in Odessa (Tampa) and her adoption fee is $400. She is about 65-70lbs now, 2 years old, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.

More about this rescue

We are a non-breed specific dog rescue group, although we do tend to take in mostly large and extra-large breeds, and especially those in the hunting / sporting groups.

Love for Paws exists to protect and advocate for dogs in our community through responsible adoption, the donation of supplies and veterinary care to those in need, by assisting in the effort to limit the overpopulation of these animals and by promoting kindness and healthy opportunity for life.
