My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MILEENA may appear serious in some of her modeling photos, bravely facing the intimidating camera, but don’t be fooled — Mileena has perfected her “strike-a-pose” and knows how to work the lens like a pro.

But the real magic happens when you meet her in person. Mileena’s gentle spirit and sweet nature will have you smiling from ear to ear. Behind those stunning gemstone eyes lies one of the kindest hearts you’ll ever encounter. She leans in close when she craves affection, rests her head in your lap when she feels safe, and gives you that look — the one that says, “Thank you for seeing me, for loving me.” She’s also the reigning queen of belly rub requests.

Mileena is deeply affectionate and longs for a home where she can finally exhale and be her true self. Kennel life weighs heavy on her tender soul. What she dreams of is a quiet place filled with love, cozy blankets, peaceful walks, and someone to be her forever person. She’ll be your silent shadow, your loyal companion, your heart’s echo.

At just 3 years old, Mileena already knows how to be the best friend you’ve ever had. All she wants is to be someone’s whole world.

Her journey hasn’t been easy. Abandoned by the only family she knew — left behind to starve — Mileena was found just in time, her cries for help heard by a passerby who saved her life.

Despite the heartbreak, Mileena remains hopeful. She says, “Living in a kennel is hard and lonely, but I stay positive. I know my family is coming for me soon. The love I share with my friends here keeps me going.”

More about this rescue

Welcome to LaMancha Animal Rescue. Since 2005, we have been a qualified public charity under IRS section 501(c)3. LaMancha maintains a forty-five acre facility for rescuing dogs, cats, pigs, goats, horses, and the occasional exotic animal that requires more space or specialized knowledge than most SPCAs can offer.

We have two heated and air-conditioned kennels for dogs, each dog is housed in a run where they have indoor/outdoor access. There is a heated and air-conditioned building dedicated to cats, which is free range, no cages.

LaMancha is staffed primarily with volunteers, we currently have an active list of approximately two hundred. These volunteers care for the animals, exercise the dogs, either on walking trails, or large exercise fields. We try and take in the harder-to-place dogs, that wouldn’t have a good chance to be adopted in public shelters.

We have gained a reputation for saving and rehoming Pyrenean Mountain Dogs, known in North America as the Great Pyrenees. These large dogs are known for their gentle temperament as well as their independent streak. When you visit LaMancha, the famous “white dogs of LaMancha” are usually amongst the first to greet you.
