My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bear is a truly special soul—a resilient senior Shepherd who has embraced his golden years with grace and quiet joy. This sweet old man has learned so much since coming to Starfish and continues to surprise everyone with his gentle spirit and willingness to learn.

Bear is a quick study and has already mastered house-training, navigating stairs, taking treats gently, understanding household boundaries, and walking nicely on a leash. Speaking of treats—he has never met one he didn’t love!

One of Bear’s most endearing qualities is his calm, gentle nature. He does wonderfully around children, even energetic ones, patiently accepting pets and attention. When things get a little too lively, he knows just when to quietly excuse himself and find a peaceful spot.

Grooming is a breeze with Bear. He loves being brushed, tolerates baths calmly, and sits patiently for nail trims. His groomer describes him as very sweet and exceptionally well-behaved.

A true gentleman, Bear is a non-barker and sleeps soundly through the night. While he can’t jump onto couches or beds, he happily snuggles into a soft dog bed, on carpeting, or against an ottoman. Now that he’s fully embraced retirement, Bear enjoys a very short walk now and then, leisurely exploring a fenced yard, watching the world go by through a window, or soaking up the sun with a peaceful nap in the grass on warm days.

Bear is looking for a loving home where he can continue enjoying the simple pleasures of senior life—comfort, companionship, and plenty of treats. If you’re searching for a calm, affectionate, and deeply rewarding companion, Bear just might be your perfect match.

If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet!

The adoption fee of $200 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed!

*please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.

Go meet their pets

We are not a shelter. We are a group of pet lovers and advocates who are committed to targeted rescue. Starfish Animal Rescue is a licensed rescue that is run by an all volunteer staff.
Once we rescue a dog or cat, it is placed in one of our foster homes until we are able to find it a suitable home. We are happy to set up an appointment to meet our pets once we receive and review your completed application.

We do our best to process applications quickly but please understand that we are a foster based rescue and that our volunteers work jobs; many are full time. Sending in a completed application is the best way to facilitate this process. You can go on our website www.starfishanimalrescue.com and download an application
Once your application is reviewed, we will put you in contact with the dog's foster family to set up a time to meet the pet of your choice!
Thank you for supporting our rescue and what we are trying to accomplish in southeastern Kentucky.
