My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chevy has officially settled into her foster home, and now this one-of-a-kind Great Dane is ready to find her forever family! She’s five years old, merle-colored, and packed with more personality than her giant paws can hold.

Let’s get one thing straight—Chevy is a total sweetheart . She’s affectionate, playful, and talkative (with the cutest little grumbles). If you’re looking for a Velcro dog who leans in hard for love, insists on couch snuggles, and lives for grass zoomies, this girl might just be your soul-dog.

But—real talk—Chevy is also a work in progress.

Personality Snapshot

Chevy is:

  • A snuggly couch potato

  • A toy-destroying queen

  • A leaner and lap dog (yes, all 100+ pounds of her)

  • A full-on clown when she’s in a playful mood

  • ️ Talkative, mouthy, and all about the kisses

  • Obsessed with grass rolls (seriously, it’s her zen zone)

  • Extremely fearful of strangers, new sounds, sudden movements… and apparently grills.

Once she trusts you, though? She’s all in. Expect face nibbles, dramatic flops, and lots of paw swats for attention. She’s got more enthusiasm for life than most people at a theme park.

Training & Habits

Chevy knows several commands including:

  • ✔️ Sit

  • ✔️ Down

  • ✔️ Stay

  • ✔️ Come

  • ✔️ Off

Plus, she responds to hand signals like a champ.

She’s crate trained, house-trained (mostly—occasional accidents happen), and totally food motivated. She waits patiently at mealtime, even if you’re cruel and make her sit for 10 whole minutes. (You monster. LOL)

Chevy walks okay on a nose-loop leash but does pull if she sees something “suspicious” (read: a stroller, a trash bin, or the aforementioned grill). She’s currently working on desensitization and doing her best!

And yes—she counter surfs and has been known to shred a blanket or two when anxious. But hey, no one’s perfect.

Fears & Challenges

Chevy is working through her fears and needs someone committed to training and confidence building. She reacts to:

  • ‍♂️ Strangers (especially men)

  • Kids (less scary than men, but still suspicious)

  • Dogs (aggressive barking from afar)

  • Loud or sudden noises

  • Fireworks, vacuums, and other chaos

She barks, growls, and can act out, out of fear. Her tail is often tucked, and her body language screams “please don’t hurt me” more than “go away.” With slow intros and positive reinforcement, she’s made steps forward—but she’ll need a family who truly gets it.

What Chevy Needs

Chevy isn’t a plug-and-play pup. She’s looking for:

  • A calm, structured home

  • Patient, experienced dog people

  • Dog Savvy Adults or teens only (no young kids)

  • A fenced yard for zoomies and grass therapy

  • A routine—seriously, she thrives on schedule

  • People who will laugh when she sits like a cat

She’s not currently dog or cat-tested in close quarters, but based on her reactivity, she’ll do best as the only pet in the home.

❤️ Why She’s Worth It

Chevy might never be the dog you take to a busy café or the farmers market. But she will be the dog who makes you laugh every single day. Who cuddles hard. Who teaches you patience, trust, and the magic of tiny victories.

She is goofy. She is loving. She is flawed. And she is so ready for a home that sees her heart and wants to help it heal.

More about Chevy:

  • House-trained: Yes – still has occasional accidents.

  • Crate trained: Yes

  • Needs a calm home – dog savvy adults and teens only

  • No dogs – has shown reactivity from a distance

  • No cats – high prey drive

  • Will counter surf and steal food – needs supervision

  • Basic Obedience Training complete – knows sit, stay, come, down, off

  • Fearful and anxious around new people – needs slow introductions

  • Pulls when excited on leash – needs additional training

More about this rescue

RMGDRI is a group of volunteers concerned with the welfare of Great Danes. Every day, we save the lives of Great Danes by funding their medical care, advanced surgical treatments, spay/neuters, food and shelter.

As part of our mission, RMGDRI firmly believes that it is our responsibility to do all that we can for every Dane that comes into our haven, into our care.

Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue, Inc. is recognized as a major resource for the welfare of homeless, abandoned and abused companion animals

Our goal is to lower euthanasia rates in our region by:

1. Bringing adoptable pets into our program for medical and social rehabilitation and re-homing.

2. Providing resources to pet owners to encourage their responsibility and commitment to their pets and prevent them from contributing to the homeless pet population.

We want to continue to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal in need, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals.
