Meet Chevy, a stunning merle Great Dane with a soft heart, a goofy spirit, and a journey that’s taken a lot of courage. At 5 years old, Chevy has made incredible progress in professional training, and she’s ready to find a patient, experienced family who can continue helping her grow.

Personality

Chevy is a shy girl at first, especially with new people and new experiences. She startles easily and can be fearful, but once she feels safe, her true personality shines. With her trusted humans, she transforms into a big, affectionate snugglebug who loves belly rubs, couch cuddles, and lounging on her back like a silly, happy seal.

She’s a Velcro dog, a world-class leaner, and will happily wiggle right into your lap if you let her. She’s playful too—zoomies, rolling in the grass, and ripping squeakers out of toys are among her favorite hobbies.

Training & Progress

Chevy is house trainedcrate trained, and knows all her basics: sit, down, come, stay, and off. She’s very treat-motivated and responds beautifully in controlled training environments.

Her biggest challenge is her fear of people and dogs. Outdoors, she may bark, snap, or lunge when scared—and strangers, sudden noises, or unfamiliar dogs can be overwhelming. But with a professional trainer, she has been calm, neutral, and noticeably improving. Her foster family reports consistent progress, especially with careful, structured introductions.

Chevy will absolutely thrive with a family committed to continuing her positive-reinforcement training, managing her environment, and helping her confidence grow at her pace.

Ideal Home

Chevy’s perfect family will offer:

  • quiet, predictable home with minimal surprises

  • fenced yard or outdoor space for zoomies and grass-rolling

  • No other dogs or pets

  • Adults only, or possibly older dog-savvy teens

  • Experience with fearful or reactive dogs (or willingness to learn)

  • Compassion, structure, patience, and consistency

She bonds deeply with her people and can be anxious when separated, but she’s getting much better about calmly settling in her kennel when home alone.

Other Good Stuff

  • LOVES car rides and will hop right into the back seat without hesitation

  • Non-destructive in the home (other than defeating her kennel bedding!)

  • Sleeps in the bed and loves snuggling

  • Very gentle with food—she’ll wait for permission before eating

  • Healthy overall, with one tooth (a fang) that will need removal

❤️ Why You’ll Love Her

Chevy is an incredibly loving, sensitive girl who just needs someone that believes in her. She may take weeks to fully settle in, but once she does, she gives her whole heart. Her goofy zoomies, her wiggly cuddle demands, her brave steps forward in training—these moments will make you fall in love with her over and over.

If you’re looking for a devoted companion and are ready to help a sweet, fearful Dane blossom into her best self, Chevy may be the dog you’ve been waiting for.

More about this rescue

RMGDRI is a group of volunteers concerned with the welfare of Great Danes. Every day, we save the lives of Great Danes by funding their medical care, advanced surgical treatments, spay/neuters, food and shelter.

As part of our mission, RMGDRI firmly believes that it is our responsibility to do all that we can for every Dane that comes into our haven, into our care.

Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue, Inc. is recognized as a major resource for the welfare of homeless, abandoned and abused companion animals

Our goal is to lower euthanasia rates in our region by:

1. Bringing adoptable pets into our program for medical and social rehabilitation and re-homing.

2. Providing resources to pet owners to encourage their responsibility and commitment to their pets and prevent them from contributing to the homeless pet population.

We want to continue to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal in need, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals.
