Someone cruelly tied Drew to a gate and drove away, leaving her terrified and alone. She was so frightened that she wouldn’t let anyone near her. Orange County Animal Control was called to help. Using a catch pole, they carefully loaded Drew into their vehicle and brought her to their facility.
For the week Drew was there, she remained shut down—too scared to take treats or respond to affection. Whenever the other dogs barked, she would retreat to the back of her kennel, overwhelmed. Because of her fear and withdrawn behavior, the shelter deemed Drew “unadoptable” and scheduled her for euthanasia.
But we couldn't let her story end like that.
We brought Drew into our care to give her the chance she so clearly deserved. Her first stop was our trusted veterinarian, who quickly sent us a photo of her calmly walking on a leash. Just an hour later, the vet called, gushing about how sweet Drew is—once she feels safe. She just needs a little time and patience to begin trusting people.
Drew prefers a calm, stable environment. She doesn't get along with other dogs and may react to aggressive behavior, though she pays no mind to dogs who leave her alone. Because of this, Drew would thrive best in an adult-only home without other pets.
With patience and love, Drew has the potential to become a devoted and gentle companion. Will you give her the second chance she’s been waiting for?

More about this shelter
The Animal Assistance League of Orange County is a non-profit 501(c)3 no kill humane society dedicated to aiding lost and homeless pets, helping people with pet related problems, promoting responsible pet-ownership and pet population control, and preventing cruelty to animals through educational programs.
The organization took its first steps in 1973 with a few animal lovers who wanted to reunite pet owners with lost pets. Today there is a no-kill shelter located in Midway City, with a population of approximately 110 cats and dogs. There is a telephone/email helpline that assists pet owners with a variety of issues, including spay/neuter, pet aid for low-income pet owners, animal abuse and any number of other issues related to cats and dogs.
AALOC is managed almost entirely by volunteers. The reason we do what we do is that we care deeply about animal welfare and hope to make a difference - at least in our part of the world.
