My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bluey!

This little fella has a bit of a special story! He was seen to be thrown from a car in rural WA with two brothers when he was just a baby at around 12 weeks old. The little pack of boys sped off into the bushes and were then seen running around the area for some time, trying to hide in outbuildings and under abandoned vehicles. A neighbor decided they were a nuisance and shot at them to spook them off the property. Several good samaritans then banded together and captured the boys before more terrible things could happen to them.

Bluey and his brothers were transferred to us and when they arrived it was no surprise to us that they were terrified and very unsocialized. Two of the brothers turned around rather quickly and were adopted, but Bluey remained scared and defensive with people. We worked hard with him and eventually were able to place him in a foster home. Our trainer and foster have continued to work with Bluey and he has made slow but steady progress. He has learned so many things! He can walk on a leash now, he plays with his dog friends, he will lay next to you on the couch and will even allow you to dress him up in a fancy Christmas sweater. All in all, a dramatic transformation! Bluey of course still has challenges. He is still easily scared in new situations. He needs a slow introduction to new people and he needs a gentle hand when reminding him of his manners. Bluey loves attention and will nudge you to get it. If you don't give him the attention he wants, he may bark to let you know he will not be overlooked. He loves playtime with other dogs and having another dog in the home is a must for him. He looks towards his canine friends to help him out when he is unsure.

All in all, little Bluey is a fighter. He came through some awful stuff and with his strong will held humans at bay for a long time. He has finally learned that humans can be kind so now he is ready to find his forever home. A child-free home will be best for him. The unpredictability of young kids may be a bit much for him. No cats for Bluey either we think.
