WEIGHT:   13.5 as of Aug 25, 2025

FOSTERED BY:
LOCATED IN:

NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:

Pinto came to us after being found in the middle of a highway in the dark with his dead litter mate.  Both of his back legs were broken in the same spot.  Based on his injuries and where he was found, it appears that he was thrown from a car.  Both legs were splinted and he has healed from his injuries and doing great!

On top of that, this poor little boy tested positive for parvo.  Luckily we caught it right away before he showed any symptoms and gave him a dose of CPMA (monoclonal antibody)  We are happy to report that Pinto made it through this second scare and has completely recovered.

While he was being treated for the other issues we also realized that he is deaf.  He doesn't let this stop him and he is a sweet and loving boy.  He just needs someone that is willing to work with him on hand signals and other methods of communication with him.  Deaf dogs are able to live normal lives and just need a caring family to work with them.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and is a responsibility that should be taken very seriously. Our dogs may have been lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered by a previous family and may require time to adjust to a new home. Many times there will be more than one application for a dog but we strive to match each dog with the most appropriate family. At this time, adoptions are limited to within the state of Florida.

Our goal is to place healthy, well-adjusted dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked including spayed or neutered; heartworm tested (placed on preventative if negative and treatment started if positive); up to date on vaccinations; bloodwork; urinalysis; dewormed and provided with any other medical care necessary. Our dogs are also microchipped for permanent identification. Our adoption donation, which is normally $300.00 for adults and $400.00 for puppies, is to help offset these veterinary expenses. Our adoption contract allows for a dog to be returned within 7 calendar days for a full refund; otherwise, all donations are non-refundable after that time. If for any reason you decide you no longer can keep your adopted dog, the dog MUST be returned to Canine Castaways.

More about this rescue

Canine Castaways, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.
