NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:

Hi! I'm Pinto, and I'm accepting applications for my forever human.
I'm about 1yr old and a mixed Wire Fox Terrier/ Jack Russell Terrier who specializes in sunbathing, naps, sniffing everything.

I enjoy a good belly rub on my time and bones to chew on. I'm slow to warm up as l've been in a shelter my whole life but now that l have lived in my foster parents home, I'm showing more of my loving personality.

I am mostly deaf and learning more sign language. I am house and crate trained. I'm very good at comforting when you are sad or something is wrong. I will greet you with my tail wagging, I don't mind baths.

I do best in a home that will show me lots of love and affection. I play well with other dogs, my foster parents currently have a big yard with Sandhill cranes that come around sometimes I just want to play with them in the morning but once I'm around them a lot l ignore them. I love being outside and chewing on a good bone. I'm learning to play fetch. I'm calm but active and don't mind walks with a leash. I'm crate and house trained.

I love kids but I haven't been around babies or toddlers yet. I'd love a family who enjoys walks, couch time, plays fetch with me.

If you think we'd be a good match, let's meet.  I promise to wag my tail just for you.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and is a responsibility that should be taken very seriously. Our dogs may have been lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered by a previous family and may require time to adjust to a new home. Many times there will be more than one application for a dog but we strive to match each dog with the most appropriate family. At this time, adoptions are limited to within the state of Florida.

Our goal is to place healthy, well-adjusted dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked including spayed or neutered; heartworm tested (placed on preventative if negative and treatment started if positive); up to date on vaccinations; bloodwork; urinalysis; dewormed and provided with any other medical care necessary. Our dogs are also microchipped for permanent identification. Our adoption donation, which is normally $300.00 for adults and $400.00 for puppies, is to help offset these veterinary expenses. Our adoption contract allows for a dog to be returned within 7 calendar days for a full refund; otherwise, all donations are non-refundable after that time. If for any reason you decide you no longer can keep your adopted dog, the dog MUST be returned to Canine Castaways.

More about this rescue

Canine Castaways, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.
