My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mackerel ("Mack" to his foster parents; estimated DOB: 1/21/2017) is a playful, silly, happy gray tabby boy who is ready to love and be loved! This boy has LOTS of energy and is always making folks laugh with his antics. Whether he's chasing his favorite wand toy or showing off his impressive leaps, Mackie truly shines when it's time to play—and he'll let out the sweetest little meows while doing it. He thrives on two solid play sessions a day and really benefits from an outlet for his playful energy. If he's feeling a little too bouncy, he might gently pounce at your legs to let you know it's time for a game. Luckily, he's easily redirected with his favorite toys and is learning that hands are *not* toys. Mackie has soft, short fur that sheds very little, and he's easy to groom and trim nails. He's impeccably tidy, with perfect litter box habits and great use of vertical scratching posts (no furniture scratching here!).

Once Mackie feels safe and settled, you'll see just how affectionate he can be. He's especially loving in the morning—eager to greet you with playtime, head butts, and even a few sweet licks. He is a smart cat; he learned to come when called after just two weeks in his foster home!

Mack has been through a lot in his life, losing his home twice and winding up at Animal Control each time.

Mack is very friendly with people and other cats as long as he is properly and slowly introduced. He was recently neutered, and hormones often take a while to leave the system. For that reason, he would do best in a home with another young friendly male cat. The female cat in his foster home has been the target of his sometimes unwelcome affections, though he has been obedient with redirect commands. Mackie is wonderfully tolerant of noise and activity. He does great with children and doesn't mind a lively, bustling household.
