My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I'm Hazel. I may be a little shy at first, but once I get to know you, I promise to be your loyal companion. I enjoy gentle strokes and cuddling up in a cozy corner. I'm sweet, almost like the warm honey my name is derived from. I can be a little timid, but that's just because I'm still learning to trust. I've been told I have a soothing presence, a gentle purr that can make any day better. I'm looking for a forever home where I can share my love. Why should you adopt me? Because every home needs a Hazel, a sweet and loyal friend who will always be there.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1971 as the Animal Aid Society of Englewood, Suncoast Humane Society began with a few cages where people left stray animals to be cared for. Over the years, our service area has grown to include over 400 square miles, covering three counties: Sarasota, Charlotte and portions of Lee.
Suncoast Humane Society provides a safe refuge for thousands of lost, abandoned and abused animals from our service area each year. We are committed to our open-door policy of never turning any animal away, regardless of health, temperament, breed or circumstances.
