My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🌸 Meet Petunia!
Sweet. Playful. Loyal. Cuddly. Petunia is the full package—and she’s ready to find her forever family!

🐾 Personality
Petunia is an absolute doll who loves snuggles just as much as she loves playtime. She’ll happily curl up in your lap for belly rubs and affection, and she’s always up for a game of tug or fetch (though she might make you chase the toy back sometimes 😉). She’s smart, eager to please, and a quick learner.

🌟 Endearing Quirks
Petunia has the cutest smile when she’s soaking up attention and she does an adorable little bounce when she runs after her toys. She also loves wading into shallow water to cool off—it’s her personal spa time!

🏡 Ideal Home
Petunia would do great in a variety of homes—she’s adaptable and affectionate, and just wants to be where the love is. She’s been wonderful with the young child in her foster home. A fenced yard would be a plus, but most important is a family who will give her the time, attention, and affection she deserves.

🎓 Training & Skills
• House- and crate-trained
• Knows “sit,” "down," "leave it" and “off”
• Rides well in the car, usually settling in to snooze
• Leash training in progress—she’s doing well and doesn’t pull much
• Will fetch toys and often bring them back!

🚩 Special Considerations
• Petunia likes to chase cats; she will ignore chickens and ducks unless her humans are interacting with them
• Up to date on all vaccines and preventatives, microchipped and spayed

💖 Petunia’s Perfect Day
Running around with her people, splashing in a pond, playing with toys, and then winding down with snuggles on the couch. She’s happiest when she’s included and loved.

Petunia is full of joy, loyalty, and charm. She’s looking for a home that will help her continue to thrive—and in return, she’ll give you endless love.

  • You must be prepared to make a lifetime commitment to the animal.

  • You may not be an undergraduate student.

  • You must be a US citizen or green card holder.

Adoption Process

  • Fill out an adoption interest application HERE.

  • Our goal is finding lifelong, loving homes for our animals, so we try to find the best match between animal and adopter. We can help advise you on which animals to meet based on your situation.

  • You can meet some of our animals at our weekend adoption events, or we can arrange for a meeting in the foster home. If it’s a good match, the foster parent will come to visit your home in person. This is to make sure your home is safe and secure for a new companion animal.

  • Note: IAR makes every effort to please our adopters, but our first concern must be for the animal’s welfare. We reserve the right to deny any application.

More about this rescue

IAR started with one woman's big dreams, a bigger heart, and a very distinctive purple pickup truck that helped her rescue countless of unwanted, abused, and homeless Triangle pets. Originally founded in 1994, IAR earned an official 501(c)(3) status in 1995. We are governed by a Board of Directors, managed by elected officers, and introduced IAR’s first paid position, General Manager, in June 2021. This role will assist with elevating our collective compassion to new heights and strengthening IAR’s impact as a whole.

Our mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. We shall strive to help all animals in need through our service programs. We will serve our communities through promotion of spay/neuter for all companion animals, and the education of children and adults in humane care, respect and responsibility for animals on this earth.
