My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Roxy, a young, energetic dog with a heart full of love. Her playful and friendly nature makes her a great companion for an active, fun-loving family. She weighs 44 pounds and likes agility, car rides, running, tugging, toys, walks, water, chase, and wrestling. In spite of being a social butterfly, she is independent and doesn`t mind being alone. Roxy is not only gentle and cuddly but also incredibly smart and sweet, always ready to learn new tricks and explore her surroundings with curiosity. She already knows the sit, stay, come, no, down, and shake commands. Despite her stubborn streak, she`s almost house-trained and knows how to keep her excitement in check except when her enthusiasm gets the best of her on a leash. She is a work in progress! Roxy`s affectionate and protective instincts make her an excellent lap dog who`ll always be there to offer comfort and security. She was given up because her owner`s couldn`t afford to care for her. While Roxy can be a bit jumpy and needs guidance around food, other dogs, and children, her sweet nature and tolerance shine through. She does love to play with everyone but alternates between being gentle and rough. Because of her exuberant play style and possessive around her food, she’ll need to live with kids at least 15 years old. She`s the perfect candidate for someone who can provide patience, training, and lots of love. Adopt Roxy today and experience the joy of unconditional love and loyal companionship! (tw 12/25/2025)

More about this shelter

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
