Their adoption process

Our adoption process includes an adoption application which must be completed and approved by our shelter management. We verify veterinarian references and also approval from landlords if the pet will be housed in rental property. Home visits may also be required prior to adoption. All dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered before being adopted.

Adoption fee for dogs is $150.00 which includes vaccinations, wormer, flea treatment, dog tag, microchip, and spay/neuter.

Adoption fee for cats is $40 and includes vaccinations, wormer, flea treatment, and spay/neuter. Most adult cats (and kittens over 3-months of age) have already been spayed/neutered.

Adoption fees for other species varies.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. The HSOV Adoption application is available at our shelter during normal hours of operation and may also be completed online via our website.
  2. Approve Application
    1. Shelter management reviews applications for approval. If approved, potential adopters will be notified.
  3. Take the Pet Home
    1. All HSOV dogs and cats must be spayed/neutered before being adopted and going to their new home.

More about this shelter

We are a non-profit shelter giving refuge to homeless and abandoned animals in Washington County Ohio. We strive to make their time here as comfortable as possible. We work very hard with our rescue groups to move our animals quickly and safely. We do this because we work for those who have no voice.

Rescue groups are encouraged to contact our Canine Rescue Coordinator (rescue@hsov.org) or Feline Rescue Coordinator (sharonpaul2@suddenlink.net)
