My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Percy! This 2–3-year-old neutered male Terrier mix is a gentle soul wrapped in a fluffy white coat, weighing 17kg and standing about 53cm tall at the shoulder.

Percy takes time to adjust to new environments and people because he spent most of his puppyhood in a shelter. He’s cautious with strangers, but a tasty treat helps break the ice, and once trust is built, he’ll allow gentle pets and even show his belly—albeit a little awkwardly. He tends to shy away when new people enter the home or approach him outside, but if you sit beside him quietly, he may just come to you. Over the past three months with his foster, Percy now wags his tail happily in the mornings and comes over for affectionate head rubs. He currently shows a clear preference for male caregivers. While he can be wary of young children’s sudden movements or loud noises, he can be safely picked up by placing an arm under his belly.

Percy is polite around other dogs—he’ll say hello but doesn’t usually initiate play. He lived peacefully with other dogs at the shelter and hasn’t shown any behavioral issues around them, though he’s generally indifferent toward canine company. On walks, Percy watches cats with curiosity and will follow your lead if gently guided.

While Percy is low-energy indoors, happily lounging in his kennel and rarely moving around much, he perks up outdoors. He truly comes alive on walks—his energy level jumps to medium-high, and he might even break into a joyful run. During the first 5–10 minutes of a walk, he may pull a bit on the leash out of excitement, especially right after relieving himself. He loves to sniff and explore, often stopping and starting as he takes in the world around him.

Percy is very quiet and calm at home, rarely barking. He usually ignores outside noises during the day but may bark occasionally at night if startled or when unfamiliar guests arrive, though it doesn’t last long. He’s not a fan of baths or grooming and finds household appliances like vacuums and hairdryers a bit scary. Percy also tends to get carsick—he drools heavily and may vomit during rides. He is fully outdoor potty-trained, so regular walks will help build trust and connection.

Percy was brought into a city shelter in the fall of 2022 as a 5–6-month-old pup. After spending two long years there, he was finally rescued this past March and is now adjusting to life in a loving foster home. Unfortunately, Percy lost one of his ears in a bite incident at the shelter, but he hasn’t let that stop him from moving forward.

With a little patience and a lot of love, Percy will blossom into a loyal and peaceful companion.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.
